too short?

Any one think this stem will be too short? also what do you think about the width where it meets the shank face ? do you think a flare would look better?

No I have done that, lol I just feel like if I drill to ¾ then form the funnel over and inch deep that the draw would be too open , just pondering some thoughts

Working the slot, forming the funnel not sure if the funnel is deep enough..... Don't know really, someone mentioned for me to make my funnel deeper, was thinking I was possibly drilling to deep, maybe just a less sharp angle on funnel then

There seems to be a buldge near the shank/stumel junction on the back k side of the bowl, like a little more material needs removed

tapered bit drilling

I Think I may be drilling mystems to deep with the tapered bit I usually stop with the tapered bit about ¾ of an inch from the button and then open it up from there, any thoughts or recommendations?

And he is a fantastic teacher, When we were at pipe makers meet up he did a tutorial on drilling with spoon bits, and he took the time and explained the whole process very well, Thank for everything Tyler

What if you make a stencil/guide out of a piece of plexi glass, lay it on the sand paper and then trim it out with a razor knife? or would that still be too much work/time and not worth it?

There was a German ebay seller with the name frory, I think he was selling old briar and vulcanite stems, and stummels like this in lots of 12 I think most of them were paneled

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Josh the base of the stain was black, and then sanded offwith 400, then cordovan, sanded off with 600, then light tan buffed off, then shellac wiped off, and then buffed to finish

Thanks Bruce, I don't mind extra work as long as it means perfect! ok, at least close to perfect, what upsets me is I have a shorter bit and I decided to use the longer one. Sas~ I do use soapy water to cool my tapered bit for the stem, but not drilling the shank, I have put some caraunba wax on my ...

ok I had a 5/32 drill bit for my airways that apparently became bent some how, throwing off my last drill enough to piss me off, why is it some bits bend while others would break before bending? Is there a certain kind of tool steel I should be looking for ? I would rather the damn thing break rathe...
