Re: UnderBender refutation

Come on now, it is great having you back, stick around. I don't think Bombastic, exaggerated, facetious, over the top opinions are anything new around here. This was no different than Rad telling someone their pipe is horrible and hoping that helps, or Sasquatch warning bowl coatings come at the exp...

Re: Natural Prince

Not too shabby. The biggest issue to me is the pipe lacks definition. None of the lines are crisp and true the way you want them. The top of the bowl, transition to the shank, the lines of the shank. It is all a bit formless and not well enough defined.

Drunken antics for sure. Lots of great people will be there, even I got invited.
Talk to Premal about what he has planned. He usually invites a few people to the shop but I dont know his plans this year since Smokers Haven moved to the new facility.
Look forward to meeting you.

Re: Pipe Boxes

I vaguely remember a thread on this subject a long time ago. Seems like one guy had a line on a company in Europe somewhere, but there was a ridiculous minimum order and the prices were steep. No other info other than try to dig through the archives for that one (possibly) helpful post.

Re: thickness around tenon

Too thin is when it breaks. The answer is subjective because only you can decide how much abuse you want your pipe to stand up to before this happens. More is better, with aesthetics being the limiting factor. Make it so it dont break.

Re: First Pipe progress. Some Nuts & Bolts issues. Help ple

I don't see much you can do to straighten things out here. I mean, you could keep filing on the shank to get the lines better, but then all you're doing is taking everything down way too far. Really, the pipe is done, it is what it is, and there's not enough meat left on the bone to change it much. ...

For a complicated shape like this, I usually give viagra to rats and tie sandpaper to their peckers. A little rat pheromone on the parts you want sanded and you can sit back with a nice cigar, they do all the work.

Yeah ! This particular lathe fascinates me. Interesting how much *hasn't* changed since then. Most of the bits and pieces were already there that long ago. At the Science museum in London they have some very old lathes, the first real screw cutting lathes made around the turn of the 19th.C. They ar...
