out-sourcing drilling work - your thoughts!

Okay, first off, I keep making the fatal mistake of asking for opinions with things, I don't want or need peoples 'opinions' with anything, more often than not I ask questions because I am unsure of my own reasoning and worry the actions I may take will lead to misunderstanding my intentions, this h...

Re: Pipe show hilarity

Nothing quite like taking someone else's emotional crapolla on the chin eh, engaging them is exactly what they want even if they refuse to acknowledge that fact, you did well to keep calm. It does sadden my heart when we have to take this sort of behaviour from people we consider friends though, see...

Re: Ist Briar pipe carved - becomes Bent Billiard (sort of!)

Hiya Rodney, thanks for your kindness, I can see there is a very interesting sense of humour on this site which is right up my alley to be honest but there is also a very strong sense of knowledge here too, not a dry dusty snooty sort of knowledge which exists out of reach to the 'new guys', a knowl...

Re: 2nd Briar Pipe - Bent Billiard

Dude. When Sas says good job... it means he loves you. Deeply. Congrats! Yeti To be honest Buddy I am way beyond flattered here, I figured I would get a whole bunch of "don't post crap like this again" kind of comments, I am deeply and profoundly moved by the love coming through here, I h...

For what it may be worth, I think it's a gorgeous pipe and I would be proud of myself if I had made it, you should be too. :)

Re: Ist Briar pipe carved - becomes Bent Billiard (sort of!)

I think you absolutely made the right decision going back to the bent billiard. My thoughts entirely but you know what's scary, I actually really liked the shape I did to start with, not for long mind you but for that brief period of 'sanity' I actually liked it, I'm so horribly sad. I think ...

Re: 2nd Briar Pipe - Bent Billiard

Yup - what shows is that a bunch of shaping was done without the stem on to see that the lines stayed true, so there's a fatness to the shank, the way it tapers, rather than a more tubular effect. Good job though! Nah, the stem was attached throughout shaping Sas, what you're seeing there mate is m...

Re: 2nd Briar Pipe - Bent Billiard

As far as files go- I only use a couple- Nicholson has a great "flat bastard" cut file, which I use a lot for rough shaping. The other great tool, is simple 120 or 180 grit sandpaper wrapped around a cork board rectangle- any ol' cork board from a hobby store will do- the slight padding m...

Re: 2nd Briar Pipe - Bent Billiard

Thanks for your interest Yeti, can you show me on an edited copy of one of my piccies to show where you're seeing the kink please, I need some proper wood files to be honest, the ones I have are very old and don't work so well, after filing away all that wood my hands were seriously knackered mate, ...

Ist pipe carved - Meerschaum Poker

( I posted a topic the other day but removed it as it was not entirely the first pipe I had carved, I am now posting the 3 I have done in Chronological order, well, sort of! ) NOTE : this is written as a Work In Progress! I was granted a very interesting opportunity, Brenden (Oxman) had purchase a M...

Re: 2nd Briar Pipe - Bent Billiard

The first round of buffing with Tripoli revealed a horde of nasty little scratches all over the place on the Briar which weren't evident prior to buffing, so it was back to 400 grit sanding and through the fine sanding process again. An hour of fine sanding later and I was ready to go with no more n...

2nd Briar Pipe - Bent Billiard

I have been planning on doing a pipe for Jim (Jimbo) for a while now, what with one thing and another finances have not been favourable. I would have been able to rally a few quid together just now and decided now was the time to look into getting a pipe done for Jim before the boat sailed kind of t...
