Tripoli?
You could try either a green (320 grit) or red (420 grit) tripoli. But regardless how you do it, the depth of the stamp will determine if you will lose the markings when you try to get it to bare wood.

Too much
I think there were too many things coming together at the shank/bowl intersection. Bad design for a beginner.

Finished No 4 today
It will be a while before I try another pick axe. I call this one T-Rex... I tried to make it look somewhat like a T-Rex claw. I didn't stain it, just waxed natural. http://members.cox.net/kim.kendall/pipes/4/No4-a.JPG http://members.cox.net/kim.kendall/pipes/4/No4-b.JPG http://members.cox.net/kim.k...
GREAT!
Great series. I thought the 3 jaw w/1 removed was a great idea, glad to see that it's a workable solution!

Nickle band
There was a nasty flaw that opened up on the bottom of the shank while I was shaping it. I wanted to salvage the pipe and just keep and smoke it myself. The flaw was big enough that it really needed the added strength of the band. Since I was taking a pipe making class from Paul (of Pipe Makers Empo...

Stock stems
LexKY - No, I'm not ready to make stems yet. This is a stock stem from the Pipe Makers Emporium. The only tools I have are Dermel and files. Wanted to make sure this was something I could actually do before investing in equipment, ie; motor, sanding disc, buffing wheels, etc. After I had the briar c...

Draught hole or Mortise first? (Bents)
G'day. I discovered this site about 2 weeks ago (thanks to Tyler's web site for pointing me to it). I've been lurking around here reading all the fantastic wealth of information you folks are willing to share. I'd like to extend a GREAT BIG THANK YOU from one fledgling pipe rookie.
