This is definitely the most difficult part of fabricating a stem for me. I can see that getting a clean, thin slot takes a lot of practice. A couple things that have helped me is to Dremel cut the slot after I have rough cut the bit and also to widen the "V" manually with a 1/16 bit. Other...

Newbie Stem Woes

I'm working on an ABS saddle stem with a Delrin tenon. While shaping the saddle I just barely cut into the end of the tenon through the ABS. The epoxy is showing up as a small white line presently after sanding to 600 grit. Is there a way to cover this up or do I have to start over from scratch? I'm...

What's the difference between the warding needle and the Grobet? They look the same to me. This is great info for me because I have been working with the same dilema. Just this past week I broke two files from a set I bought at a local hardware store. They are really the only two I use so far out of...

Ben, I remember this pipe from when you posted it on CPS. I would agree with Kurt's assessment. The asymetrical asymetry of this pipe leaves me feeling anxious and uneasy. That being said, from an artistic standpoint I like work that induces different and unexpected feelings and emotions. Artisticly...

Made my first ABS stem today. The rough stem shaping was a bit of a pain due to the "swarf" but I found that it did quite well with rasps, files, and sandpaper. In the future, I may even forego the rough sanding and just use a rasp to remove material quickly. It seems a bit softer and easi...

I like the poker. As others have already mentioned, it does bulge around the middle of the bowl and it would look even better if a little more briar was removed at the shank/bowl connection. Just a bit more time spent with the sand paper (and a squinted eye) and you have yourself a very, very nice p...

Very nice. I especially like the Blasted Tear and the poker. I've recently been stuck on a pipe as far as how I want to attach the stem. The Blasted Tear is exactly what I had in mind but I'm not sure I have the skill. I'll have to give it a try.

My first pipe

I've been perusing this site for quite some time and appreciate the great info and honest feedback given to others. Feel free to be brutally honest. Any and all feedback/advice is we...
