You'll notice multiple stamps on the um, object to the left. That was a group effort. That's what I was thinking of! That was funny as hell. Wasn't that done...

Gorgeous. One question, will that short a tenon (looks very short in the pics) cause issues in the future if there is the least bit of loosening?

Re: Ernie's Shrine of Pipe Excellence

Todd Johnson beat you to it, I'm afraid. And sold it to some Chinese Guy for $4500  (Not a rumor, I saw it with mine own eyeballs) No you didn't. TJ I could swear there was a thread on the site where Todd posted a picture of such a pipe that he made with a couple of others, but I thoug...

Re: I've recently converted

FVF is very good stuff. But age it at least 2 years before you open the tin. Otherwise it's going to underwealm you. Certainly better aged, no doubt about it. What i forgot to mention as well is that SG flakes are almost ALWAYS we as hell right out of the tin. A bit of drying time prior to packing ...

Re: I've recently converted

Haven't smoked cigarettes in almost thirty years. I smoked Camel regulars back then, and Players. I have to say, pipe tobacco is so much better, such higher quality, and so much cheaper than cigs (even the top of the line brands), it's just not funny! I probably have enough to last my lifetime, my ...

Re: I've recently converted

No it's not really one of them religious things but it maybe sorta like one of them suedo cult dealies like Saturn owners from the turn of the century was it or was it the late 1900's? Anyway I quit smoking cigarettes not long ago and switched to just the smoking a pipe. It's not like I smoked a lo...

Re: What is the purpose of PMF?

I agree with you on this one, Ernie. I've also noticed that we have a lot more newby pipes being posted and less decent pipes. I remember when the bug bit I posted each and every one. God, they were awful! But, posting taught me a lot. Sometimes from the comments I got, sometimes from comments that...

Re: What is the purpose of PMF?

Anyway, just to restate Tyler's title for this thread, I'll ask - what do you want to get out of PMF? That's easy. I just like a place where I can talk to other people who are as passionate about pipes---the actual object that is the pipe---as I am. Or in my case for some period of time, just to re...

This forum will go dark on Black Friday in order to move the DB and site code into the cloud. Holy shit that went smoothly! Now if there's downtime, we can blame the hosting provider and not some damnable hard drive in my office choking and letting out it's magic smoke. --K Got that ...

Re: Peterson Re-engineering

This is why I got rid of most of my Pete's. Very poor engineering; especially on their bent pipes. Yup, same for me. That and the fact that I have never, ever been able to warm up to the p-lip. Just can't clench it, and if you can't clench it, even for a short period, it ain't for me. I kept one ju...

wmolaw, I meant to add: the best way I know of to demonstrate that you're serious about your pipe making early on and intend to stick with it is to go to as many shows as possible every year, if not more. :) You'll see a lot of the the same faces at most every show, and they'll see yours. It not on...

Re: question for taige users

I got a Taig a few months ago in a trade. Haven't really worked much on it, but I know that Tyler Beard has a set of videos out that show him drilling/shaping stems on his Taig.

Re: Details and Pricing

Hmmm, don't know if I should dip my toe into this area since I don't know shit, but what the hell. I can't come at this from the point of view of a pipe maker, as I just make them for a hobby, sell a couple, but most are given or smoked. I try different things, just to have fun, really. Sure, always...

Wow, some pipes being sold by that seller are going for big dough, like a Bo Nordh. Man, that's concerning!
