Re: First Billiard Please Critique
Wayne, I think I can make the changes you posted in your version. I don't have to touch the wood at the shank/stem juncture so this might be doable. I'll check how much wood I have on the bottom of the bowl. If there's enough wood I'll grind away at it some more. I liked the taper at first but the s...

That's an awesome second pipe. Mine wasn't nearly as nice and neither is my third.

Re: Pipe of The Forest Wizard
I'm really liking the grace and simplicity in this one. Your work is always interesting and inspiring. I'm making an effort to turn out some billiards to improve my skills but you've got me thinking I should be rounding up some bamboo and trying a churchwarden.
Very nice pipe.

Re: First Billiard Please Critique
Thank you Alden. I think it's too late to modify the shank on this one. If I do it'll be too thin and most likely break. I will be incorporating your suggestions on the next one though.
Thank you,

Re: horn
Thanks Sam. Looking again, the grain is better on one side than the other. I have a lot to learn. Even the "bad" side looks good to me but if it had a twin with better grain and they were side by side I'd go with the better grain. I'm going to have to change the way I look at things if I'm...

First Billiard Please Critique
I also posted this over at Pipe Smokers Forum but decided to post it here too. It's my third pipe and first Billiard. I decided if I'm going to be looking at other people's pipes and commenting on them here then I'd better put my money where my mouth is. Also I signed on to the PITH and I am taking ...
Re: horn
I'm new to this game but here's my meaningless FNG opinion anyway. First off, it's a very nice pipe and I would be happy to build something that was even half as nice as that. The first picture the stem doesn't follow the flow of the shank (looks flattened out, I wouldn't call it a kink) due to the ...

Re: 2013 Pipe In The Hat Trade
I'm still struggling with the shank length, do we count calabash chambers as length as well? I hope so because I'm thinking about experimenting with one as well. I've got an idea stuck in my head and that's never a good thing but I think I can pull this one off. I have a feeling there's going to be...

Leeson is a good brand and farm duty is about as tough as it gets. Those motors should be more than sufficient for your needs.

Re: my first pipe..
You may want to post full size images of your pipe onto the site instead of the thumbnails. It's taking forever for the first thumbnail to load on my computer and I don't think most guys are going to be patient enough to wait. It's been about 5 minutes and maybe 1/4 of the image is showing now. Rodney

Re: Summer Edition of P&T Magazine - Crappy !
Looks to me like Nate's work is far more than a pipe shaped object with broken watch parts glued to it. I'm seeing good solid pipes on his website with a fit and finish I can only hope to achieve some day. As far as I'm concerned his work is cover worthy.

You can also try Ebay and Etsy as venues to sell until you get your name out there enough that people will hunt you down. Forums like this one where you can post a link to your website will help you as well.
As for me, my work isn't good enough yet to worry about selling anything.

That's a nice looking pipe and it looks like you know your way around a camera too. Were you posting just to show the pipe or did you want critiques? For good critiques the most important images are the profile shots so the people offering critiques can get a good feel for the lines and proportions ...

Re: I'm an Idiot, how do I post photos?
You need to use an online photo hosting service. Most are free. Photobucket is the one I use. This is what I do with Photobucket. Other sites will most likely be different in the details. Upload your pictures to the site you're using. Select the photo you want to post on here. In photobucket there'l...

Wish I had some decent advice for you. I'm not sure if it's worthwhile to try to salvage it if you should just move on.

Re: Masking the rim for sandblasting?
Is the rim flat or is it tapered, curved or otherwise irregularly shaped? How thin is the rim? If it's really thin it could be the tape doesn't have enough surface area for a good bond. The wooden lid idea is a good one for flat rims, could be a bit tricky to do with anything else though. It's been ...
