And I gave them both a bump today.

Looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow.

I managed to get five pipes done for the show.

Re: buff and wax on rustification

I did coat the pipe with shellac first, but I didn't get the shininess I was looking for. It is more of a satin finish, which is OK.

I wonder if I should have thinned down the Febings first. I used it straight.

Re: buff and wax on rustification

Use a soft wax. I use renaissance wax for my textured pipes. Either that or use a shellac finish for shine although on oak that ain't gonna work. Chris, How do you use the Renaissance wax? I am running into the same problem with my rusticated pipes and spray Shellac is not doing it. Here is the pip...

I don't know if anyone cares, but I found some decent rates at the Red Roof Fairgrounds. It is about 10 minutes from the shop. I usually look for low end places since I am not interested in the pool, laundry, exercise room, conference room, blah blah blah. And I have stayed in too many expensive pl...

I'm really looking forward to attending this year.

I am willing to split a hotel room with someone on Saturday night but, I warn you, I have been told that I do snore.

Dry out used coffee well. You can throw it in the oven at low temperature for a while.

Then put it in a coffee grinder and grind it to a fine powder.

This makes a great filler for small inclusions in turnings.

Re: Cosmetic repair question

I can't comment on the best route if you are going to sand blast, but if you wanted to keep it smooth I would say the you have two options. Fill it with Briar dust and epoxy or make a feature out of it by filling it with Ebony dust (or coffee grounds is a surprisingly good substitute) and epoxy. Todd

Lovely pipe! I feel it would have been nicer with a black mouthpiece, or at least a tighter straighter accent within the acrylic. The combination of straight grain sandblast, slim straight stem, silver ring and the contrasting wide spaced, swirly (on the side) pattern acrylic seems to me like weari...

Re: 2014 Pipe In The Hat Trade.

poker/sitter/cherrywood? there are alot of options in that range and i think that we could come up with some interesting shapes. The only thing i would suggest is that all pipes sit unaided. Sitters would be really cool, but I have a hell of a time getting my pipes to sit right. If we do this I wou...
