Making the slot

I have a couple things I've been struggling with lately and hope someone can give me some advise. I have a really hard time making the slot in the end of the stem. My procedure goes like this. I drill with a tapered bit and stop about 3/4" shy of the end. Then I use a 1/16" to drill the re...

Re: Billiard Contest

Sasquatch,

Your last sentence almost made me choke on my coffee. Very funny. Nothing like a good cup of coffee with your favorite tobacco and a good laugh. Thank you.

Re: Shaping

Is it too dangerous to try with the milling vise also? I was planning on using that instead of my hand.

Shaping

Hello,

I'm interested in shaping before drilling. Unfortunately I can't afford spoon bits. I do have a drill press, milling vise, and ground spade bits. Does anyone have any experience with this setup that could give me some advice? Thank you very much.

Re: Stem making videos

I see, could you expain why one would use a delrin mortise inside a stainless tube. Originally I thought it might be because the tenon expanded when you use the counter sink. If you haven't sent that pipe out yet could you please post a pic of the mortise. Thank you for answering my question.

Re: Stem making videos

Just wondering why you took a little bit of material off at the end of the stem before using the coutnersink.

Wow, I really like your style. Does your pipe intentionally look like your llogo? Is it just me?

Sealing

I want to keep the rough top of the block, but cant get all the bark(?) off. Was wondering if I could stain it and seal it some how as to where the bark wont fall off. I tried using a wire and a nylon brush but the nylon brush did nothing and the wire brush started leaving marks which I want to avoid.

Sharp edges

For the PITH this year I want to try to put some sharp crisp edges on the pipe. A good example would be a ring around a cylinder. Any tips or tricks?

Shaping on lathe

I dont know what the shape is called but it looks like a top with sharper edges. How would I go about doing something like that? I think someone wrote use your lathe like an etch a sketch.

trustone

Has anyone used trustone to create a stem inlay. I want to put the inlay a little farther from the tenon so I dont think making a tenon that long would be practical. So, I was wondering what type of adhesive to use. Also does anyone think a trustone inlay would create any problems while trying to fi...

Re: billiard...

I agree that the stem and shank look a little too long, also that stem/shank transition looks off. Very nice effort though. Wish I could make one like that.

I think the stain on the rim compliments the band well. Beautiful pipe.
