New Facebook presence and other fun announcements

Friends, A Facebook group for PMF has been created, and everyone is invited to join and check it out. The intent is not to move traffic from here to there, but the other way around. Hopefully it introduces the forum to more people, and gives them a gateway that isn't quite as intimidating as jumping...

Re: Precision Air Regulator

I'm like Chris, I set the pressure at 120 psi 2 years ago and I haven't moved it since. You want a bit less? Move the gun back. Don't blast as long. But the idea that I'm every somehow better off at a lower pressure just hasn't crossed my mind. Because I blasted at lower pressures for years, and it...

Re: Precision Air Regulator

I have been blasting for several year now and have never needed that kind of adjustment, in fact I rarely change the pressure much. In other news, in addition to the crankiness  , this comment surprised me the most. I can't imagine not changing the pressure when blasting. I'm tweaking it const...

Re: Full-bent on lathe...

So, I'm a little lost. You can't actually do that shank on the lathe -- I wasn't (just) being a smart aleck -- the shank is curved and not straight. You could do maybe 1/8" or so to have a guide for making the shank circular, but you can use a compasss and draw the guide on the end for that. Wh...

Solution: You don't shape that shank on the lathe. ;)

Re: Keyhole drilling causing bad stem fit

A comment on using a brad-point bit for the mortise, a brad point won't self-center as easily. The sharp point just cuts right in, and won't slide to center. For that reason I don't like them as much for the short drilling of the mortise unless your lathe is spot on and it doesn't need to pull to ce...

Re: Keyhole drilling causing bad stem fit

Before you buy anything, I recommend changing your procedure. Go in this order: Face with Forster Drill mortise Re-chuck for draft hole and drill airway. Make sure the keyhole is not deflecting the bit before drilling into the floor of the mortise. This will help you, A LOT. If this change doesn't h...

Re: Keyhole drilling causing bad stem fit

Based on the pics there is essentially zero chance the keyhole is causing your issue. It's either a funky drilling of the mortise, or a bad delrin joint.

P.S. The tenon length is fine.

Re: Precision Air Regulator

I have this one: https://www.hydradynellc.com/product/52r326ra/semi-precision-dial-regulators It's great! I highly recommend it. The page linked to is confusing. The model number is the exact regulator I have, but the photo is of several different regulators. The one I have looks identical to Trevor...

Re: Meerschaum Blocks...

To be clear, I wasn't trying to "call you out", which to me implies I was trying to prevent you from an intent to deceive. I was just saying those look like the pressed stuff, which I was 100% sure would be news to you if it were true. The fact that they are apparently 50 years old explain...

Ok Jeremy, easy peasy. You'll do shanks extensions in your sleep by the time you leave here.
