If you want to do a saddle stem with no decoration, you will need to start over. Otherwise, you can turn down the stem and put a decorative sleeve of some material to cover the error. I routinely do this to cover the delrin when using transluscent acrylic stem material. (Actually, this is just about...

Like Jack said, the cast acrylic from Delvies is excellent. I have been using their rods for several years, and have had excellent results with it. It's what I use when I make a pipe for myself, or if I want to get some different colors for pipes I sell. It is much more difficult to drill (you must ...

I saw them in person in Richmond and believe me the pictures, as good as they are, do not do Steve's pipes justice.

Two new pipes

I finally got around to making some more pipes, shown as numbers 4007 and 4207 on my website. I did make one in between these two, but rejected it for retail, and kept it in my collection. Didn't take pics of it, though.

Link below. Thanks for looking.

I've never used Mimmo's wood, but Todd Johnson apparently buys a lot from Mimmo. You may want to email Todd to see if he has any insights. You can find Todd by Goggling his name plus the word pipes.

I also use a 1 inch belt sander for rough shaping, and I usually leave a drill bit in the draft hole at the button, but I use it as a hold instead of a guide. I keep from going into the airway by measuring the thickness of the stem just behind the button. I also measure the distance from the uncut d...

Here's how I have been squaring the shank lately: I cut a longer piece of delrin, and when I get the pipe near completion, I insert the delrin into the mortise, chuck it in the Taig, pin the back (actually, what will be the front of the pipe) with the tailstock pin, then cut a very thin amount off t...

As there will be a learning curve in this for me, possibly a big one, I plan on practicing with 2x4's instead of briar till I get my technique down and figure this SF/DS stuff out.

It's not my fault! I am a victim. I'm going to hire a lawyer and file a lawsuit against whomever has the deepest pockets. Rad Reminds me of some comedy group (I forget who) that did a lawyer commercial skit where people were suing themselves, and winning big bucks! Personally, I think you should co...

Re: Spoon Bits

Guys, Let's say I make an 11/16, 3/4, and 13/16 set, and it comes in at a price of $250. How many of you will purchase the set? I need COMMITTED answers here to get definitive prices, but consider $250 in the neighborhood. I will need money in advance, and shipping will be actual cost. Brad It was ...
