Is there an easy way to tell how many words are in a post? Because if you counted all the words in my post by hand....bravo.

I like this guy...

I think he'll make it past the initial hazing just fine.

Re: New Orleans Pipe Show Report

I think you summed it up well. It was my first show so it was great to meet some PMF guys and get some good critiques on my pipes. Shared some tobacco and a lot of laughs. Hope to see more of you there next year. Congrats on winning the contest! I didn't get a chance to look at the entries, do you ...

Re: Help please --- How do I become part of this scene?

Aside from the few minutes I've spent in their company at pipe shows, I've had the opportunity to fellowship with this trio for several hours at a local meetup. I am nothing like these folks, but I came as I was, as did they, no judgments. Super nice folks... Super nice. To dispose of all pretense, ...

Re: Pipe Makers Emporium still in business?

their acrylic stem inventory is very attractive, but requires quite an investment to do, hopefully someday I will branch out into more of them. Also will have tenon turning tools some day. Besides that, we have everything covered I was buying acrylic stock from them... It is my understanding that t...

Made a few changes and its now sold fore good money to a happy pipe smoker. Yeah, uhm, you probably shouldn't have said that here. ? Why... I don't get it... isn't it what's it all about. Make them, get some feedback here, make some changes and then sell it? and then start up a new build better ski...

(right side , middle of the circle, image taken through a magnifying glass) I spotted it yesterday on one of my blocks, there were 3 or 4 of them running around, none larger than 1mm in length. No holes in my briar though... Difficult ...

Re: Briar "WTF?" from newbe

Ah yes, the wood boring beetle larvae... I discovered a couple of these guys in a small batch of briar that I was sampling for a new project. These pests should have been killed when the briar was boiled after cutting. They might have infested the wood during storage after boiling. Either way, I wan...

Anybody got a line on where to get some pipe boxes? Plain and un-decorated, or with printing services?

Re: No.10 Pipe for Critique

So then is it generally bad if someone posts their works on other forums . . . gets the ooh and aahs, but still puts in the work and listens to the critiques to continuously improve from THIS forum? No, that's not bad at all... Just don't go down the slippery slope of ignoring the criticism just be...

Bent Pipes: Shank angles and Curves - Two Case Studies

I suspect most pipemakers started out by making the shanks on bent pipes "wrong". I know I did... And I had to learn how to do it right at one point. Once I learned how to make a bent pipe look good, every pipe that I made "wrong" before that really bugged me, embarrassed me even...

What the hell is going on in the forums these days? Well, seems to me that folks are posting up their work on the other pipe forums and getting all the "oohs and aahs" and "that's the best thing since sliced bread" that is common and default for pretty much any pipe posted in th...
