Thanks for your input. It would make sense that companies are cutting corners to bring prices down.

I've seen a company (can't remember right now) that sells Scratch n Dent Jet lathes - do you all think that would be worth looking into?

Thoughts on this mini lathe...

Is there anything wrong with this lathe as a starter? The only problem to me seems to be the 650 rpm starting speed, rather than the JET or Delta 500 rpm.

I'd love to hear your take on this! Thanks!

I would do a search on this forum for "turning tenons." There's a ton of information on this thing!

Also, check out this website. There's video's of Tyler turning a tenon on a mini lathe.

Good luck!

'tis a small world, indeed! I'm just down the road from Spokane in Pullman - graduated from WSU and now live there. Grew up in Clarkston, but spent a lot of time in Spokane with my dad, too. Good to know there's someone with a similar interest in the area. I like the stain with the rustication - not...

Dobar Dan! Fun to hear you are from Croatia. I spent 6 weeks in Croatia (mainly in Rijeka, but traveled to Zagreb, Pula, and Rovinj also) last summer. I actually purchased my first pipe on a trip through Austria last summer, which inspired me to begin the process of making pipes for friends. Thanks ...
