Jet Lathe and Nova Chuck - Price Check
Currently in correspondence with someone about a Jet Mini Lathe ( JML 10141), a Nova Midi Chuck (#48111), and a set of 7 tools. It has been used once. They want $250 for the lathe and $75 for the chuck and tools. Good deal? Bad deal? Should I counter with something lower?

Re: #10 - Never Again...
Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to weasel my way out of admitting a mistake. The right thing, since I wasn't 100% happy/proud, would have been to remake it. It was a mistake on my end - hopefully one I won't regret. I do plan to start selling pipes in the future, so quality is something very imp...

Re: #10 - Never Again...
1. It goes down at a very steep angle. Spoke to the guy who purchased yesterday and he said it was smoking very good. 2. I didn't hate it so much because of the quality (I didn't sell it for full price; I got $60 for it), but mainly because it was just a really frustrating project. The geometry from...

#10 - Never Again...
Ignore the poor quality phone camera pictures. So. This was my first sold pipe, my first commission, my first shank extension (technically stem extension)*, my first upside-down shank, and the first pipe that I truly hated. Oh yeah; the airhole goes through the side of the tenon....PITA Here it is, ...

#9 - Not Sure How I Feel About It
Any tips on making the yellow contrast look less yellow? There were some issues with the stem early on so that is why there is a slight gap/misalignment. http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq327/Coryd221/0807121809.jpg http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq327/Coryd221/0807121808.jpg http://i460.phot...

Re: Newbie presentation
If you want my advice, use delrin tenons over the Pimo tool. But if you have a lathe, why not turn them on there....?giannilibrizzi wrote:Ps: I'll be creating a post about it, but I'll be needing a Pimo tenon tool,

Good News!
So, my local B&M pipe and cigar shop has notified me that they want to make a purchase of three of my pipes.

Re: #6- brandy
You could use a little more shaping to make it symmetrical (top and bottom views really highlight this issue). I don't think I would call it a Brandy. Looks more like a straight diplomat that needs some shaping to me. Here is a good standard for Brandy: http://www.aspipes.com/Shapes/Brandy.htm The s...

Looks like an asymmetrical button that you would hold with your molars/back teeth (along one side of your mouth).

Re: first post
I think working on the engineering aspect(seamless stem junctions) is a great tip, you seem to be capable of some more complicated shapes for sure. I would suggest visiting a more classic shape, I think practicing something tried and true will actually help you innovate better. X2. You can make as ...

Re: Yet another Newbie here
I vote skip the kit if you have prior experience in turning/woodworking. I never used one and feel that it helped me advance quicker. Order a handful of briar blocks and some pre-form stems (or rod if you are brave) and get to making some pipes. Only way to get better is to make more and more and po...

Vacation and Pipes
Went up to North Myrtle Beach, SC, the past four days and had a chance to swing by Low Country Pipe and Cigar (smokingpipes.com). I have to say -it is the coolest pipe shop I have been in and it was really cool to see some of the work of the guys on here (Rad, Bruce Weaver, J&J, etc.) in person....

Sea Shell Shank Extension
Has anybody ever used sea shell for a shank extension?
I found a pretty large hunk (about 1" thick) of a shell that I would like to try as long as it isn't going to kill anyone. I can imagine it would be kind of tricky to drill, but other than that it seems like it would work.
