Re: Alternatives to Beall System
Swung by Lowe's to get some bits, sanding belt, and some small files (I am not equipped for smaller stuff - I have stuff to do cars and big woodwork haha). I had to grind a spade bit since I couldn't find anything suitable for a tobacco chamber - it actually worked surprisingly well and gave me a ni...

No lathe unfortunately. I have a drill press though.
Anywhere local that would carry this stuff? Lowes? Home Depot?

Re: Some Designs - First Pipe
This has been pretty interesting so far - I like it! Not sure how well I am doing, but this is how I progressed after ~30 minutes (including drawing on the block). This is my rough outline. I am going to shorten the bowl some I think - opinions on that? Need to pick up a spade bit to grind for the t...

Alternatives to Beall System

Re: Shank Bits
1/4" mortise and 5/32" smoke hole seems about right for the size of this pipe. I think it is just below average size (not by much) - I am going to taper the shank from 5/8" to 1/2" or 9/16". Here is how she sits right now. I need to pick up a few bits and a belt for my sande...

Shank Bits
What type/size of bit should I use to drill the air hole? Mortise?
Also, kinda of a random question - what size should the shank be (outer diameter) on a classic billiard - I am thinking 1/2"?

First Stummel Complete! (Unless the Critique Says Otherwise)
Ordered some briar on eBay (Alexander Zavvos). I got five ebauchons for $41, so if I mess one or two up I won't regret my purchase. I have some prior woodworking and metalworking experience (lathe, mill, drill press, all sorts of sanders, and the rest of the standard tools are pretty familiar to me)...
