Oooooh, field ripened. Plump and lovely.
Re: #1214
Extra points should be awarded for any pipe able to stand on its head even if you then can't see the spectacular rim. I think I would prefer a different color stem though. But not blue.

Re: Kansas City Pipe Show
Not that I can get there from here but I was real curious about the contest and entrants. Here's a link to those who will be competing: http://www.gkcpipeclub.com/Default.aspx?pageId=1329307 Quite a collection of ne'er do wells (and lots of familiar names). I wish I could be there to see all the ent...

Re: JSEC - Canted Poker with Horn Stem & Failure + Save
I think you forgot to post the pic of the failure 'cause I'm not seeing it. All I see are two very nice pipes.
That's the most elegant Poker I've seen. Congratulations on your fine work.

A nice ivory handle and a little pipe mud would cover that minor imperfection right up. Think of it as an opportunity.

If you're interested in learning a little more about Marcel Duchamp, I put this slide show together, but please don't look at it if you're offended by his playing chess with a naked woman. Lots of pipe smoking, too. https://picasaweb.google.com/PhilipH.Gott/ArtMarcelDuchamp?authuser=0&authkey=Gv...

Got a real appealing attitude to it; is it really light? I like the striated rustication best.

Re: Carnauba application question
Thanks, guys. My biggest misunderstanding was my assumption that I should actually see the carnauba removed from the bar or applied to the buffer. I'm still a little skeptical but the pipes are getting shiny. Nope, no lathe and I further complicated it by buying the "variety pack" so I hav...

Thanks for the first hand review, Kenny. It'll be awhile before I need worry about speed but its nice to know what they're appropriate for should I ever get there.

I assume you mean centimeters which is .8" x 1.6" in gringo sizes and that's my favorite, too, although the poker has some definite appeal. Nice work!archaggelosmichail wrote:1.95 mm diameter and 4 mm depth

Re: Photos For Critique
It really helps me understand the whole pipe better if there's some hint of the chamber in the almost-profile establishing shot. I also appreciate it when a photo includes some item that helps give it scale. I've never seen a shot of pipe that would qualify as a Product in Use pic but it might not b...

Re: Advice on Bulldog 8-12
@ Hudson: I used a delrin tenon (which is a pain in some respects, but not others). I drill a hole most of the way through the stock with a 1/8 bit and then drill a mortise for the delrin to fit into. After its epoxied in I redrill it with a tapered 5/32 bit. From there I use a 1/16 bit to create a...

Re: Pipe Three : A Squarish Pot? (from kit)
Good lookin pipe! What type of lathe chuck are you using? The dents in the side of the block look identical to what I get when I use the pin jaws with my PSI chuck. Just wondering if that's what they're from. Thanks All the shaping was done with files and sandpaper, the rustication with a hole dril...

Pipe Three : A Squarish Pot? (from kit)
This, my third attempt, is shaped from a small nosewarmer kit I won on eBay (pic 1). Not sure what the shape is called but it seemed appropriate to the block and provided a good exercise in the rustication and finishing technique our colleague taharris was kind enough to walk me through. I welcome y...

Re: Advice on Bulldog 8-12
Personally, I like it a lot, even its cocked rim bevel. What don't you like about the finish? I like the satin sheen, I don't think all pipes need be shiny nor high contrast stain; it seems subtle and relaxed. I like too the contrast of stummel to stem; it's still classy but informal. Can I ask how ...

Thanks for doing the math for us, Sas; it's easy to forget that pie are square. I think I'll sidestep for now the impending controversy on the difference between square inches and inches square but I am wondering, since you are renown for your big bowls, do you perceive any relationship between airw...

Re: 12-09 Green Imp
Have to agree that the stummel is great; great shape, great texture, great logo. The finish is particularly intriguing; is it actually iridescent or is that just the sheen? The first photo really shows it off well. I agree too that it's ripe for a series and I'd be eager to try a number of different...
