Re: Stamping Woes

I hear what you're saying; I've seen a number of pipes where I thought the "signature" was a little over the top. I don't even sign my paintings on the front. I use gallery wrapped canvas and continue the composition around all the 1 1/2 inch edges and sign it there too. Some of my colleag...

Re: Stamping Woes

Interesting use of JB Weld. I've seen it used to repair vintage outboard motors but never quite so elegantly. I realize this is an old thread but it did raise a question in my mind that I hope hasn't been answered ad nauseum. Does anyone "brand" their pipes like branding cattle; heat it up...

Re: 2012 Chicago Pipe Show Preview

Personally, I like the third one but if you go flashing these photos around, you're likely to get some offers you can't refuse and end up with an empty table at The Show.

Re: Another new member!

Sounds like an interesting competition; I wonder if that could work here in the Piedmont. It sure seems to have put you in touch with your inner sculptor. Nice work, your tenth should be fabulous.

Re: Leafy Bulldog

Eskidesian has a nice ring to it, sounds rather high-brow, which is good 'cause they're more likely to have some spare cash. Earlier I had suggested papoose but I didn't provide any photos so just in case anyone didn't understand what I was talking about, here's a photo: http://www.firstpeople.us/ph...

Re: Pipemakers near Greenville SC?

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, Myrtle Beach is 4hrs and 23 min from Greenville and while I thank you for the encouragement, Growley, Alabama's a ways away too. I did run across this guy's web site but my e-mail to him came back as undeliverable. Vardry is a pioneer family name around these parts so I'm...

Pipemakers near Greenville SC?

I've been looking for any pipemakers in the Upstate SC or around Asheville NC but haven't found any. I'd like to find someone who would collaborate on a pipe with me while showing me how it's done, with me doing as much of the work as feasible. I live in a condo and trying to make a pipe with a dril...

Re: Some new

Gorgeous work, nicely detailed, coherent design, at least to this artsy eye.

Curious about the mortise/tenon; they seem more robust than I'm used to seeing. Is that true or am I misreading the photos?

Handsome pipes all but it's the bamboo elephant's foot (?) that catches my eye.

Cork wrapped?

I ran across this good-looking pipe but I've never seen this wrapping done before. Is this a veneer that is glued to the briar, presumably because the briar is less than stellar? I love the appearance but it makes me curious as to what it feels like, or smells like, or even sounds like? Is this some...

Re: The Power of Story

And so I'll ask the question that may or may not elicit any response: How can a pipe tell a story? The pipe's going to tell a story whether you want it to or not. It may not be the story you intended it to tell but pipes just aren't duplicitous and they're going to tell it the way they want to. So ...

Greetings from a new member

Hi All I've been lurking for awhile and have enjoyed learning a lot about pipes while getting to know you all a little. I'm a complete noobie to the role of aspiring pipemaker but I'm an architect and an artist so hopefully I'll be able to contribute something occasionally. It will be awhile before ...
