Re: Pipes for sale ?
I have noticed that there are just not many pipes offered for sale on this forum. Or at the very least, with little frequency. Is there a reason for that? Is it poor form or are most of these pipes sold in a private retail setting? Don't pay attention to Ryan and his smart ass remarks. :D This foru...

Re: "Scottie" Dublin
Is the draft hole in the bottom of the bowl a little larger on this style of pipe? Or I wonder if it's a trick of the shiny spot making it seem so large. Yes, the newest fad in pipe making is to have an expanded hole near the bowl. It allows a greater amount of tobacco to be sucked into the mouth. ...

Re: drilling process
You could use standard drilling with just a little ramp like so http://i.imgur.com/NovYijWl.jpg Or you could really make it complicated and drill it like this http://i.imgur.com/HdNiifel.jpg I'd guess the second method is what we're all suggesting. Huber, WTF?!?!?! What's with the first drawing? Th...

Todd's response in this thread makes a good point. I wonder why George didn't care enough to write an actual reply.

Re: drilling process
As far as I can see, to join this bowl and stem will require a 3rd passage as I'm thinking of it in my head. One passage drilled through the bowl, one drilled in to the shank and a third to branch between the two. Nope. There is a wealth of knowledge here. Just do a search and you find the answer r...

Looks to me, sorry George, that it's not from a power tool. It appears to have been due to a torch lighter, as evidenced by the half moon burn marks. I've seen this numerous times and it's due to improper lighting or the guy is smoking in a convertible!

Re: Keeping Warm in your Shop
When my shop was built, I spoiled myself with HVAC!
Scottie is correct, the oil filled radiant heaters are terrific. I had one in my old shop and it did a super job. They're inexpensive and efficient.

The easiest way I've found is to shape a billiard, then cut the panels, that is if you're going for standard shaped classic.............say a Dunhill.

Re: Machined pipes.New Factory in Nashville.
If you know Todd Johnson, you can be assured these are extremely well crafted, from the bit to finish. Pete Prevost oversees production. Pete is a gifted pipe maker and finicky about detail. Rest assured, these pipes are spot on. I was blown away when I first saw their line of pipes. Yes, they are f...

I know this will bring different views, but I've found that cross cuts smoke cooler than straight grains. I realize most love straight grains and they are beautiful, but cross cuts are so interesting with grain and birds eye. I love cross cuts, but make a lot of straight grains that I bastardize by ...

Re: Importance of making pipes with the repairman in mind
Apologies Tyler, but what a silly question. If you feel confident in your abilities, why every worry about the repairman? Crafting a pipe with the repairman in mind, means you make a poorly executed pipe. I've NEVER given it a thought. Well hey you old grumpus, why don't you start a better, more in...
