thanks a lot for the comments. usually the flat side of the blowfish has a flat angled surface that surrounds the oval area. i just decided on a whim to use the engraved style around the oval. the grain is not the traditional cross grain of course, but you can do whatever you want with your personal...

blowfish variation
this is my thirteenth pipe. first time i have made a blowfish type of shape. the tobacco chamber is 3/4, the airhole is 3.5 mm, the length is 5 1/2 in., and the briar is from larry roush. i decided to keep this pipe for myself because everytime i'm smoking a pipe around someone who knows that i make...

jeff, thanks for your concern. i don't have a drill press. when i stated that i wanted a 1/2 inch shank to use in the drill chuck, i meant the drill chuck in the lathe tailstock. it seems to me that i could use it manually or chucked in the tailstock with the briar spinning. in one of brad's first p...
i think that is very prudent of todd not to want to post the info on the method in the concern of safety. getting so close to a lathe powered spinning drill bit could cause major hand injury of course. hopefully todd can expain how to do this in a safe way, or maybe it's too dangerous for the masses...

hello all. thanks again for the feedback. it would be great if that guy would let you post the information about drilling after shaping. i understand the axis technique with using the center on the tailstock. before i got the lamb chuck i drilled the tobacco chamber and mortise in a vise that i set ...
thanks alot for all the feedback. i agree that the stem should have sat lower in the shank, but it is difficult to have the foresite when you drill before shaping of course. i knew that i wanted the rough bottom look, so i just did the best i could with what i had. don't quite know how to keep the p...
