Re: Jaws For Holding Briar in Your Chuck!
I did hit them with a wire wheel but I don't have the best setup for that. But that being said, the little pieces won't stay long once you make a pipe or two. As you may notice, the jaw holding area looks a bit different than in the original set. I made that change a while back due to someone worryi...

Re: Jaws For Holding Briar in Your Chuck!
Truthfully, I don't remember for sure but I'll send you a PM. If they won't fit the way I'm making these, I can change the hole pattern for mounting so that a set will fit your chuck.Briar Boy wrote:I have a Barracuda 2 chuck, will these jaws fit it?

Re: Compressor install question
I bolted mine down as well but when I bought it the guy had been running it bolted on the pallet it was shipped on. So yes, either way will work just fine.

Re: Jaws For Holding Briar in Your Chuck!
I just finished three more sets of jaws. One set fits a different chuck so I had to change the bolt pattern. (This one is sold) Then I made up a couple today that fit the oneway chuck. (One set sold) Instead of having just the straight cuts across the jaw I've been doing a cross hatch on the jaws no...

Re: Shop Aprons
When I remember to put it on, I wear a good leather apron that I got from a place I used to work. The guy that ran the big metal shear wore one for safety so it's heavy with double shoulder straps. It's comfortable and cleans off easily. I do a lot of metal work on the lathe and use a mill too so th...

Re: let me help you, help me
Whether your a machinist or not, once you purchase a metal lathe you'll find metal items you want to make and use the lathe to do so. Even if you specifically purchase it to make pipes, somewhere down the line you'll, as I said, find something to do with metal that you want to spin on it. I have a J...

Re: Jaws For Holding Briar in Your Chuck!
I know I haven't been the most punctual at filling orders for my jaws. But with the job/travel causing long times away from home and throw the wife's medical problems on top of that, well just let me say, I've been lax. So with that in mind, I just worked up 3 sets of the jaws and only have 2 of tho...

I'm not sure what happened lately here but I haven't been able to get on the site for quite some time. I've also been out of town all summer and only home sporadically so am behind in so many things, including this venture. I know that there were several people I have been in touch with lately that ...

I've been extra busy the last couple times this PITH game was played. I've been the same this year, but I have more notice this time. Sooooo.............. Count me in! I saw someone mention shank extensions to lengthen the shank. If I'm stepping on toes just tell me. I think a shank extension is a g...

Re: dust collection
Andrew, I know mine is pretty loud. Although I don't know which one you got, I'd say any of them doing a good job will cause quite a bit more noise than you want in the same area with you. That's why I installed mine in a seperate area from my shop. Good luck with the install and I know your wife as...

Re: stummel chuck for 9" metal lathe
Maddis, you could do as I did. I purchased a scrolling wood chuck from grizzly tools. They have one that will fit your spindle. The bolt pattern for the jaws is the same as the Oneway chucks, but the screws are smaller. So I just drilled out two jaws and re-threaded the holes to accept the same scre...

Re: Self centering or Indpendent Chuck For Stummels
I have a scrolling chuck, a 4 jaw independent, a 4 jaw self centering and a 3 jaw self centering as well. They all have their uses so eventually a use or uses will be found for all. That being said, if I could only have one chuck for pipe making it would be the scrolling wood chuck. I can make jaws ...

Re: Cutting curves with a metal lathe.
I made one. I used two pieces of angle iron and then made two shafts drilling a hole in one so that the other slides inside it. I drilled and installed a set screw so height could be set. I the. Welded one piece of angle iron flat on one end drilled to bolt to the cross slide on my jet. On the other...

Re: Jet 9 20
Some of the mods are easily done, some not so easy. But all are not necessary for our uses.
I'll have to look for/take pictures of the tool rest.
Here is a link to most of the mods, including a variable speed setup using treadmill parts.

Re: Jet 9 20
I have had and used a Jet 920 for a while now and love it. It's done pretty much everything that I've wanted it to. When I bought mine it came with a quick change tool post and lots of tooling. They don't make a tool rest for it but I made my own and it works great. There are also lots of upgrades a...
