How about a horn shape or something? There's not much of a clear standard for that shape, so it may not work, but it would be cool to see everyones interpretation. Or maybe something more showy like a wax drip. I dunno. Just some food for thought.

Schubeck--- What color or "grit" is your primary tripoli compound? I use the dark green/grey which, for me, allows me to sand to 600 then tripoli then diamond white ... and so on.. If your tripoli is too coarse that will definitely gice you a matte finish. In my first few pipes I was sandi...

I agree with Sasquatch. In addition to being relatively easy to work and fairly inexpensive, olive smokes better(in my opinion) than any other alternative ( excluding meerschaum and briar). I've never tried morta, so I cant speak on that. While osage orange and mesquite are sturdy and look nice, the...

Todd, I wouldn't say "really" young, but yes , I am 24 . :P Thanks for explaining things to me. Being that this is a forum (text based), I cant always tell if someone is being snarky, funny, or just angry. Sarcasm doesnt translate on here as well as it does face to face. :) I dont intend t...

Sasquatch- I couldnt agree more with you. These guys on here are a wealth of knowledge. I have no problem taking criticism on my pipes. Apparently Ive been a little defensive at times and I sincerely apologize for that. I've made around 175 pipes in the past 2 1/2 years. I guess I'm just defensive b...

Well i'm sorry if I came off that way. :) It wasnt my intention. Its been a rough week for me as you well know . I'm feeling a bit over-criticized at the moment. I apologize to anyone whom I may have offended in this post. I'm usually pretty resilient and apt to benefit from criticism, but I've been...

hehe. Thanks for calling me out sir! I dont want to split hairs here, but I was just saying that my pipes will be drilled at 4.4mm and 4.7mm in some cases. The vast majority will be at 4 mm, but I'm trying new things. Isn't that a good thing... for pipemakers to experiment to find what works b...

Brian, No , a few things came up that I have to attend to this year. I am planning on going to the Las Vegas show in October and hopefully the Richmond or Columbus show if things work out. I will be at the Chicago show next year. That way , my work will be a little more refined and I'll have some pi...

Thanks Jeff . I was just referring to the Canadian "family of pipes" as I thought you were. I was saying that I will take that advice with Liverpools Lumberman, Lovat, and Canadians. :)

Thanks guys, I think due to the way the photos were taken, some aspects of the pipe are not properly represented. For one, the button is even, although it does not look it in the photos. Secondly, the stem fits completely flush with the stem right side up or upside down. I am a huge believer in that...

Hey Aaron, (if you dont have access to machinery)If you know someone who has a tile saw, I would think that would be the most effective for rough shaping. Also , clamping it down and going at it with a rasp should help quite a bit in the shaping process. Ive only worked with pertrified wood in small...

Thanks alot guys. I really do appreciate your input and criticism. Im going to restrain myself from making freehands for awhile. As you all said... I need to refine my classic shaping skills. I will definitely take your advice on that one. I am also working on a pricing scale for my pipes (possibly ...

I agree with you Brad. I have, for lack of a better explanation, become distracted by the art aspect of pipemaking. Im not going to lie, it has hurt me in a few ways. Honestly though, I do sell quite a few of this shape on a purely commissioned basis. For now, my plan is to stick mainly with the cla...

I used to drill at 5/32 , but after re-reading Rick's book , have decided to bump it up to 11/64. I have re- drilled a few of my pipes at 11/64 and 3/16 and I would have to say it really depends on how much bend there is. While it is nice to set a pipe down for a few minutes and come back to it stil...

The first of many critique sessions. New pipes!

Hey guys , I would like to humbly offer up my pipes to you all for criticism. Keep in mind, I would like the truth. As I have been making pipes for almost 3 years, I feel my work still has a long way to go. I have been jumping around quite a bit lately between styles, sizes and schools of pipemaking...

What kind of compressor would you recommend for that Cyclone E-100. Im trying to get a cheaper system to see if I like the blasted look on my pipes.

Thanks guys.

By the way I like the way yours turned out.
