Cleaning of Pipes
Hi there, Perhaps there is a Chemist out there who can tell me if it is safe to use "Ketonatus 96%" (Denaturized Alchohol) to clean my pipes. After many years of smoking pipes, I now struggle with terrible tongue burn and I was wondering if the Ketonatus may have someting to do with it. I ...

Sandblasting Abrasive material
Hi all,
I have a question about what abrasive material to use in my small cabinet.
I have been advised locally to use a product call Aluminium Oxide.
Are there any other suggestions regarding this subject?
Thanks in advance,
DonBernard.

Here's yet another in the "Blond" series. I think there will be a break after this. Thanks for your patience. (Had to work it through) http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/donbernardpipes/0814up.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/donbernardpipes/0814bup.jpg http://i253.p...

Another Blond
Hi there all, This one is quite a bit like the last two that I posted. You might say it's something of a cross between the two. It's the third in the "Blond" series. Hope some-one likes it. :) http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/donbernardpipes/0813up3.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/a...

Pipe Stamp
Hi there,
As I am located in the Netherlands (Europe), I am looking to have a Pipe Stamp made locally, does any-one know where I can have that done here in Europe?

Welcome Charl to the pipe-making world from a fellow South African now living in the Netherlands, I miss South Africe hugely.
The road will be bumpy but there will also be amazing rewards.

Re: A real Quirky pipe this time
Thank you all for the encouraging and positive comments on this pipe. I really thought that I would get myself "kicked out" of the forum with this one. Note to Hollywood: Those turning skilz, all hand-work. I don't own a lathe at this time, one day I will. Wow. Now that's impressive! How ...

A real Quirky pipe this time
Well, you see, it started life out with the intention of becoming a "squashed tomatoe" type thing, but the appearance of two huge "PITS" changed the direction and outcome of this one. So, instead of just abandoning the block, I just carved and carved and let it go it's own way re...

My compliments to a fellow novice pipe maker.
I think this one has a "great spirit"......
It sure does catch me right there.
Keep it going.

Why the slit in the stem?
Thank you Rad Davis and kbadkar, I have been informed and enlightened. Thank you especially kbadkar for the metric conversions, I am often confounded by your imperial measurements. I shall have to persue the purchase of tapered drills, and of course, drill my own rods for the purpose. "The road...

Why the slit in the stem?
OK, I have given your explanation some thought. I did not know that the channel narrows toward the end. My experience with pre-drilled rods is that the hole is the same width throughout the length. I have read elsewhere on this forum about the use of tapered drills, so, is this their aplication? Sim...

Delrin - Teflon
The question lies in the subject line.
Is Delrin the same as Teflon?.
Here in Europe I am able to get "Teflon" tennons easily whereas Delrin I have to order from the US and wait up to two weeks for delivery.

Why the slit in the stem?
I am about to embark on making my own stems from "scratch", and I was just wondering, "Why is there a slit in the stem?", is there a valid reason for it or is it just "tradition" to have it there?. I have in mind to just finnish the stem off with a hole in the center of...

Here's my No:11
I have just completed (?) this pipe. It's my No:11 and it's a first for me. Ground my own "Spade Bit", drilled the holes (very happy), and of course the rest. The stem is also hand made from a lucite rod, with a "Teflon" tennon, this too is a first for me. The shank-extension was...

Here's another of my early pipes (no: 3) I hope you like it. It's my idea of making a pipe base as an extension of the pipe! (Just practicing posting pic's here) [img] Comments are always welcome. Bernard (DonBernard)[...

Please pardon my lack of experience, but I think that this is a very nice looking pipe, yes it does step ouside of tradition, and that's a good way to learn. Just look at the many "mistakes" I am hapily making as I go!!!!!!
