Hehehe. Yea, now that I look at it, your carves seem much tighter and more regular. Whereas those seem a bit looser in spacing and direction too. Nice finish though.

The one thing that has really changed for me, since I got interested in making pipes are the asthetics. I used to swear by saddle bits. On any pipe. But once I started looking at a pipe as an artistic piece, or for asthetic value, the tapered stems seemed much more appealing. The same with stem inse...

Check out Ronlano Negotia's pipes. They are very artistic. And I am stumped on how the draught holes are straight, but he told me that all the draught holes are all straight lines.

I don't know th addy off hand, but he has a link on Greg Pease's site.

Vey cool bud. The rustication looks very similar to GBD's old Rockroot finish. Both in color and texture. Was this what you were going for?

I saw a router bit that looked like it would make a wonderful bowls in a wood working stor the other day. When I asked if it would work for that purpose, the woman said it would work just fine. If my father in law, doesn't have one, I'm planning on investing in it.

What about trying to fit the end of a stem into a driull chuck? Granted, you'd probably have to get an extra large chuck, and then clamp the drill in a vice or somthing, but its an idea.

I was interested in the curved draught hole to a while back. The head carver of Genod pipes, Jaques some one...darn it I can't remember, was an expert on this. The trick was that he used a flexible bit with a very short drill head, and then had a solid tube, in the shape of the curve he wanted, arou...

Well, I don't have a wheel, so I just went for it. Two coats of stain, one redish-brown and one dark brown and then on with the shelac. The staining didn't turn out just as I'd hoped, but hey, for a first try, I'm pretty happy. As soon as I get batteries for my digital cam, I'll post a pic.

How long between staining and and shelac?

How long should I wait between staining and shelacing? I mean the stain is dry, but somthing tells me I should wait a day or two. Any insight would be appriciated.

Spanau Lemon wood pipe

Have any of you seen the pipe made out of Lemon wood over at the neatpipes.com site? They look too cool. I wonder how they smoke? I was tempted, but they were juyst out of the price range, plus I tend to be a fast puffer and would probably burn the thing right through.
