What to do

Just lastnight I saw a few of these pipes online. One jumped out at me right away. And not because i missed it, but because the pipe was listed as ...

You could always try some nose oil. I hear there's a good supplier nearby.

Re: Drilling Longer Stems
I use two tapered bits. My first is a 3/16 taper which I drill 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through, and then I chuck up a long 1/8 bit that i have tapered myself (using a bench grinder and a hand drill.)

The opposite I think. Forstner bits clear chips poorly. No clue about the glazing. Sounds shiney to me. Shiney is usually good, no?

Re: filling a leak
I always though that the stain bleeding through was pretty cool. I'd like to cut open a pipe like this to look at the inside of the briar one day.

Re: 2 newbie questions
Those littel cutters make a nice strait slot, but its too shallow for me. I like my slot pretty deep.

Re: 2 newbie questions
There are ots of ways to cut the slot. Most of them involve a drill bit used in a dremal. What works for me is to snip a scroll saw blade in half and cut the slot with this and then widen the slot with a 1/16 bit in the dremal.

Yea, I got the idea that they were a pretty small operation. Their orange cut great on the lathe. The dust from the sanding seems a bit more gritty, or bigger some how. But that could just be that orange stands out a whole lot more than the black.
