Re: drilling a bent...best options

I use an abrasive rod made to put into a hacksaw. You snip off the loops on the end and you can bend it into any curve you like. You can then use it to smooth out the ramped area at the end of the mortise. I hope that makes sense? Here is a pic of what I am talking about. http://www.disstontools.com...

If every board I was on deleted childish posts, I would never get a word in at all.

I don't know that I could have done that restoration. Great job man. Is that vice self centering as well?

Tape duct tape to the back of the sandpaper strip to make it less likely to tear in tight spots.

Re: stiff shaping wheels

I use a 7 in disk from an angle grinder with a 36 grit fibre disk. That is attached to a motor using the chuck from the beal buffing system. I just fitted the backing plate with a bolt and washers to screw it into the beal chuck. I did have to turn an adapter. I made mine out of nylon stock but you ...

I always do it if for no other reason than it chamfers the hole at the end and takes off any sharp edge that could cause hairs from a pipe cleaner to gather in that spot.

I really wish I could have made it. My daughter's first soccer game of the season was that day and I am the coach so I had to be there. I love reading show reports like this. It is good to hear the show still went well despite the smoking prohibition.

that looks great. is a blast like that more a result of application technique or of the wood giving up grain easier in certain lines than in others? really nice work. Actually it is a combination of both. You have to have a little luck with the wood and develop a technique that gives you the look y...

Trent Rudat makes a great firm padded French Wheel that he sells for 100 bucks or so. It comes with a chuck similar to the Beall system that will fit on a motor shaft. I bought one last Nov. and it is seriously one of the best things I have ever bought for my shop. I bet he is going to have several ...

I recently bought a French wheel from Trent and can confidently say it is one of the best additions I have ever made to my shop. It has cut my stem and stummel shaping time in half. I think he wants 100 bucks for it. At that price it is a steal.

The guy at the post office told me if you insure the package and a claim is made the first thing they will do is confirm if it has been delivered. I skip the confirmation for that reason. If it shows up damaged then you know it was delivered.
