Why is it that you need to have spoon bits to drill after shaping? Is that that a typical S&D bit would have too much tendency to pull on the stummel when you are drilling? I guess I never really understood this. Well after seeing those crazy pics of that guy holding a stummel with one hand, op...

No, you need to have spoon bits to drill after shaping. The 3/8" bit I refer to is used after drilling a 4mm pilot for the chamber to open it up a little more prior to using the spoon. I was simply puttng forth the idea that one could modify a silver and deming bit with a drill and grinder rath...

I have a 3/8" standard drill bit that was ground to a chamberesque profile the same whay pierredekat describes. I use it when drilling freehand after shaping. I don't see why someone could not modify a silver and deming drill bit the same way. It might be easier than a spade bit as there would ...

I have bought drill bits from Trent on a couple of occasions. They have performed really well for me over the last couple years. I have never used the chuck shown on the site but I have held it in my hands. I have no reason to think it is not a great tool. Trent is a good guy. I would not hesitate t...

Re: Motor Question

Ok, so I've got this nice motor at home. Its quite old I think, but it turns like a champ. I ususally use it with a danding disc, but of course I will now also want to use it with my spoon bits. (YAY Brad!) The trouble is that it spins the wrong way. I've tried switching the black and white wires, ...

I recently picked up 10, 100 sheet packs of 400 grit sandpaper on ebay for $9.99. That's right, 1000 sheets of sandpaper for 10 bucks. I was pretty stoked.

Crosby Chicago 2007 Preview Page

I made up a preview page of some of the pipes that I am bringing to Chicago. If also features a pic of my shop mascot that has always sat next to the radio since I started doing this. He moved there from my painting studio. My wife won't let him in the house :D

I imagine they are cast acrylic. If they are suitable for making pens then I don't see why you couldn't carve a stem from one.

Thanks to all who bought rod. I have exhausted all that I was going to sell off. I am going to try to bring some to the Chicago show with me from the lot that I set aside for myself so those who still want some can look me up there. I will get the rods out to those who ordered yesterday as soon as p...
