Re: heat dissipater
Sounds like the bowl would have to be pretty thick to get enough space to facilitate those holes. If you make them you would, at least theoretically, end up with some heat driven upward air flow that would probably cool the sides of the bowl, as well as insulating it. But on the other hand a bowl th...

Re: #036 Freehand black bamboo dublin with boxwood ring..
I like it too, nice contrast stain with the black bamboo! However it seems that there is a slight bend to the bamboo (at least on my screen), which the stem does not follow. Maybe a slight bend on the stem to keep the flow of the bamboo? Just my thought when I looked at the photos. Good job! Best re...

Facing both ends of the cavalier
Hi guys! I've been thinking about the facing of both ends of the cavalier pipe, with the airway going all the way through that is. Facing one side (like an ordinary pipe) I have no trouble with doing on lathe or drill press, but I'm puzzle about how to get both ends with a tight shank-stem/plug fit....

Sorry about that Dave, I interpreted the question as an interest in the spinning procedure as such.
Don't mind my previous comment and link in any other case.

I'd prefer it as dry as possible, it tends to move a bit when drying..
Think you'll do fine by just taking it easy and watch out if it tend to get hot.

What he said!fuchi_jeg wrote:The smell is very minim as long as you keep it cool. If you overheat or Burn it the smell is ten times worse. Turn a tenon on the briar shank and epoxy the horn or antler on. Same way for a stem inlay.

Re: Antler
Smell is not THAT bad, but I've heard that it is recommended with breathing mask anyway to reduce horn dust that can be harmful to lungs. The antlers is quite hard and can be somewhat brittle, at least in my experience so be careful on a lathe. Also it tends to almost melt and get burnt if friction ...

Disappointed with the grain? I think it looks really good, both the shape and the grain! Good job! (but that might be me not knowing good grain :D, my wood was pretty cheap since it was the first batch I bought for practice ) As for finishing in a week, I find it hard to beat since the staining and ...

Re: Yeti Pipe #13- Blackreach
Overall I think it looks great, really nice black birdseye! Also I like the partial rustication, not a fan of that in most other cases. he only thing that comes to my mind is that in the profile pictures it looks a bit weird that the stem is not centred in the shank but a bit lower. But that might no...
