Re: the weekend project
Hehe.. Maybe "template" was the wrong word, google translate gets the translation of tricky words wrong sometimes. It sounded about right to me in the Swedish translation  I thought you wanted feedback on the pipe as a whole, as like it was ready for colour and buff. Keep at it man :w...

Re: the weekend project
Nice start Bob! I don't know how that Dunhill patent you're using as a template looks, so with that in mind I might not be able to provide valuable critique. However I think it needs more work on the horn and stem, so it matches the thickness of the shank. There also seems to be some glue-residues b...

Thanks Wallace.

Well that depends on what you mean by laying around. I don't but there is a lot of them for sale here. But I think most of the metal parts demands some sort of license to buy.Do you have any Swedish Mauser parts laying around you're not using?

Re: Half Canadian Bulldog
I would leave a little extra meat (.015" ish) on the shank near the bowl. Do you mean less sharp transition between shank and bowl or am I misinterpreting? Jon Well, I would leave a touch more in the transition since that is razor sharp, but I wasn't referring to that. I just meant that your s...

Re: Half Canadian Bulldog
Thanks for the comments! Ernie, I see your point. It didn't bother me at first but now as you say it, I see it too  and it is due to the flattened bottom. I'm not sure that it bothers me that much although I really understand what you mean! (and I also guess your eye is better trained than mi...

Half Canadian Bulldog
Hey guys! Here is my latest attempt at a bulldog variant with a slightly longer shank and shortened stem. The band is moose antler (actually got it straight this time). I kept it neutral since I glued the antler piece, to both this one and my last bulldog at the same time, before staining and the st...

Re: "E" pipes
Not to stir any more emotions up here but I vaguely recall seeing an e-pipe or something similar on here not too long ago. Even if it is not my cup of tea, if someone else wants to make them it would still be fine by me.. The last time I told someone that I make smoking pipes as a hobby the answer w...

Oh, I forgot to mention this was my inspiration for the Foursquare: http://www.iwanries.com/dunhill-cumberland-5102-P11976C168.cfm Ewww... No. Your shape is much more appealing to me than the Dunhill. Agree, your version is way better. I also like the lines of that canadian very much. Great job on ...

Re: Best sharpening method
Just as an input it also depends on whether you are scrubbing or cutting with your lathe tool. When cutting properly the surface gets really good but like Chris said I don't know if the pipe gets ready on the lathe. I use a Tormek for all my wood lathe tools, with proper jigs. Very easy to use but y...

Its all the little details in the finishing and last sanding that makes the difference, don't rush it too much
