Re: Rare, old, and VERY cool
All the cool kids are coming back, Tyler! At least the ones that have realized social media has proven to be unhealthy for them and/or are concerned about it's less than responsible influence ;) And I agree with George (well, not so much on the opening of this thread) but in regards to this being th...

Re: bent dublin
Very nice pipe! It looks great just as you have it, but by way of possible refinements: Another vote for chamfering the top of the chamber. I do that significantly on most plateaux tops and will at least break the edge a little on all pipes. I like the shape of your saddle, but if there is room I'd ...

.... The same way many skills like music or gymnastics seem inborn more than they are "injected" or "added"---some kids can just DO certain things---and working with your hands is on the list, I think. .... My own experience and working with young people leads me think it's a mi...

Re: A&M Steel Stamps
Great to hear that! I had tried getting my 2021 stamp from Paul like I usually do, and was unable to reach him. Must have been about the time he was moving.... that hard (or impossible) to reach has happened before). I went with Buckeye for 2021, and it worked out great... Nice to have options...

Re: New Facebook presence and other fun announcements
OK, so I know this is a very old thread, but... I never warmed up to the Facebook group. Tried diving in a time or two, but it mostly got lost in my feed, and I seldom checked it out. Now I'm reevaluating my use of Facebook altogether. Too much of my time waisted, and recently, some extremely concer...

Re: Yazid bouchemat briar
I've had some of his higher grade blocks (can't remember what he calls them), and some more like a blast grade that I picked up from the old Pipemakers Emporium, and also got them from Steve when he dealt with him on the condition that the proceeds would go to paying off the people he ripped off fir...

Ebonite sheave
I have some short pieces of ebonite and cumberland I apparently picked up as samples. I accidently grabbed a chunk of the black thinking it was NYH and tried to make a stem. The peelings off of the lathe looked instantly strange, super extra black, and it seamed soft. Thought hmm... this must be som...

Re: Leather and Wool Tartan Pipe Travel Case
Very nicely done! I like the tartan lining--nice touch! Haven't tried much of any leather work, but it sure would be nice to have something along those lines. I always enjoy using something I've made personally, and it would be cool to have something I can take with me on outings. I'd likely try for...

Re: Friendly critique of Deden Durahman's pipe
This is a tough shape to nail down. It's a great tool for learning how to see the flow in pipe lines. If something is off, it's going to be jarring, almost disturbing.. I think your critique is spot on, Tyler, and I agree that the finish work is stellar. Lots to work with. Keep after it!! I guess it...

Shut up about Calabria Pipe, Scott - that's a secret!  You're secret is safe... Unless things have changed it's almost impossible to order from him! Althought that adventure was 12 years ago! Translation issues, weird wire transfers, diasasterious hassles, and then an unexpecte...

Re: Good Briar Block Selection
As others have allready mentioned, you'll find good and bad briar from everyone at all price points. If you like the idea of picking out your own, the easiest way to see a lot of briar to choose from is at the show in Chicago. It's all pre-sorted, but you'll be able to pick through a lot of blocks i...

Re: Anyone else? (FDA response)
.... My plan for years has been to order 5 lbs of 5100 the moment I thought the end was near for tobacco. Yep, I ordered 5 lbs of 5110 earlier this week! It's their Dark English, and my go to smoke... Also ordered provisions to make up a large batch of my second favorite mixture... Sounded like bul...

Re: X,Y and Z adjustable custom drill press clamp
I actually used to do it similarly to that way. I would hold the stummel in one hand and use my hand drill. Looking at the motion of his stummel while he is drilling the mortise, his mortises have to look almost as bad as mine. I still drill my pilot for my tobacco chamber while holding the stummel...

Me me me!! I saw they were sold out tables, and I'm not sure if I'm on the list or not!!! I mentioned to someone I was planning to go, but don't think I ever officially firmed it up. I'm guessing I don't have a table, and that being the case, I'd be extremely thankful if I could share Joe's with hi...
