Re: Airstrip...

It looks to me like that pilot was milking the luxurious space of that airstrip a bit. It looks like he could have landed it in about half the distance. :D

Pretty cool to see that. Thanks for sharing it!

Lars,

That's a great looking 1st pipe. You should be proud indeed. My first pipe was terrible. Keep up the good work!

Brian.

Re: Jet 920w start not engaging ?

I think I've already gotten EBK taken care of, but here's the original link that I posted the issue in again for reference. http://www.pipemakersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=8579&hilit=Jet+Technical+Support+Number+800+274+6846 As a side note, I've been up and running ever since. The ...

Re: Opinions on bamboo stems

I am working on a bamboo pipe at rtf he moment and was thinking the same thing about the stem. I came to the conclusion that it dosesnt matter a bit. If you take your time and do a good job someone will like it. I think it will look much better if you leave the bamboo unmolested and shape the eboni...

Opinions on bamboo stems

I want to get some feedback on your thoughts on stems for bamboo pipes. I've got a rather large bamboo shank pipe that I'm fitting a stem for. I know it's custom to make the ebonite "knuckle" circular, but in this case, my bamboo is much wider than it is tall, so I've got a pretty big oval...

Frank Axmacher - hurts my brain

I love looking at Alpacia to get some inspiration. They host a lot of great pipe makers. Frank catches my attention often, but this particular pipe really got me looking. The asymmetry on this one just hurts my very symmetrical brain! Don't get me wrong, I think the pipe is really cool. I'm just sit...

Re: Yeti Pipe #50 Braxton

I must be a hack, because I like it just the way it is. I particularly like the stem work. Nice pipe! I'd say you can certainly be proud of it. The ring, to me, gives it a sort of cartoon character (but not overly so), which I think works great with stummel shape. It's woodsy and whimsical, and not ...

Re: What would you make?

? ? ? More people than just me have noticed that smoking in pitch darkness is a disappointing experience. There is something about seeing the smoke along with tasting it (and smelling -- teleportation would knock that out too) that completes the picture. Might it possibly be that way for you too ? ...

Re: Dust Collection Vs. Dust Expulsion

This post makes me sick. You guys are whining about 29 degrees?! I will remind you that Montana was recently the coldest place on earth with -51 wind chill. My shop hit a solid -20, and I sanded right on through it! Yessir I did! Grump. Yeti yeah, I'm a wimp about it... It's been in the 20's here a...

Ha, we'll see about posting it. I'm pretty sick of this stem and this pipe. I might just finish it and make it a shop pipe.

About impaled myself...

Yesterday I was working on a stem, the third for this particular pipe. It's a short stem with a ring, so I'm shaping it on my lathe with a tool rest and gouges. All was going well when all of a sudden I got too close to the chuck and the jaws caught and turned my gouge into a hurdling spear of death...

Re: In case you haven't seen it --- Dustin B's briar gallery

I met Dustin at the KC show last year and got to see a lot of these pipes in person. In my very brief interaction with him, it was obvious that he's a great guy with some wonderful pipes. Thanks for the link! PS. I'm curious about the photoshop treatments of the pipes though. I'm guessing it's just ...

That's why on some cheaper pipes, you'll actually see the smaller cut as Wayne's describing. They cut it too small, but didn't bother to take it off and get the entire tennon the right diameter.

Re: Morning Commute

I grew up in snow like that (Michigan). And while I don't miss it one bit, I do wish my kids could see what it's all about. That drift is a fort waiting to happen!

I guess I'm just a Michigan snow-bird that got stuck in the south. Should be mid 70's here today.

Re: Pin Gage.....plus, minus whats the difference?

I'll +1 the need for a pin gage set. If you just do a little searching on ebay or other sites, you'll find them fairly cheap. This way you know for certain you have the right size. When I first started pipe making, Tyler told me I had to get a set. I put it off thinking I could work around it, but m...
