Re: Shape first, drill later...
I've made my first pipe with the shape-first process the last 3 days, and I really enjoyed it. I've used pilot hole until 12mm when an egg shaped burr -Bo Nordh style- and it was the only hard part and really stressfull....so some spoon bits designed by J.Alan are going to be purchased soon. I choos...

Wenge wood on stummel
I'm making a freehand pipe with wenge wood on stummel. It was my first shape-first pipe, and everything gone well with drilling.
I want to ask if it's ok for the smoke to pass through wenge wood or I should insert a metal rod such as bamboo pipes.

Is there any way for someone in US to send the set to, and then send it to me by standard USPS shipping? Thanks...

Re: Pipemakers, craftsmen? Artists? Engineers? Bodgers?
Craftsmen or Industrial Designers. We have to be able to find the balance between aesthetic and functional issues.
If we were making pipes that don't smoke, we would be artists, if we just drill 2 holes one a block we would be engineers.

Well don't take it that hard.
It would be a great honor to me to see someone in a few years, copying my style of pipemaking.

I've contacted another supplier and seems that everyone in Greece is using micron size as reference....100-200 is the number that fits me.

Re: Blasting media!
Hello there, I've contacted my blasting media supplier to place an order, and he told me that in glass beads the grit number is refering to weight(not like Al/ox or sandpaper grit) so 300-400 is heavier and more aggresive than 100-200. Do I need to order the most aggresive 300-400 or the smaller and...

Tobacco shops in NY
A friend of mine is now on NYC.
Is there any tobacco shops that you know and have McClelland's blends and/or SG Full Virginia Flake?
Thanks,

Bend the stem more.
Old-fashioned pipes had overbend stems for extra style.

Here in Greece we are really heavy cigarettes smokers and have a widely-known phrase:

Re: Outside dust collection in the Northern(ish) hemisphere?
I've made a nice box of 18mm thick plywood draw some wide holes(at the side of the box that is facing to the river next to my shop) and left plenty of room to have lot air and not overheat.
At the other sides of the box I glued rockwool so I reduced the noice, and got done with the neighbours.

Re: Outside dust collection in the Northern(ish) hemisphere?
I do use my dust collector from outside of my workshop.
It's better setup cause of the less noise and filter's dust.

George I'll agree with you.
I've wrote it again that to me, a pipe is given more points for handmade stem of ebonite and solid tenon.
