Re: Some of my new works
Thanks for your comments. I love them all. Very nice classic English shapes! The only thing I can comment on is the length of the shanks on the billiards. Isn't a billiard supposed to have a shank length equal to the height of the bowl from the top of the shank? That's being extremely nit-picky. Usu...

Re: All-in-One Lathe?
Yes it's awsome but also be carefull with your machines.
If you work more than 3 straight hours with your lathe at more than 900rpm it's temperature will rise dangerously.

Re: #1220
Make one without taper and see if you like it.
As for me I believe that every billard with tapered stem, has to have taper shank, too.
Generally billard is a really hard to make shape, especially the english ones.

Re: #1220
It's not an english billard for sure but it's great.
Both front and back of the pipe has nice flow, althought it's a bit tall.
Nice grain and stem tapering, I would love to see some tapering to the shank, too.

Re: when it´s time to take pics. of the pipes
I've been trying to take some decent photos over the past few months, but only when I visit a photgrapher friend of mine I get good results.... When I'm trying to take photos I have the problem of aperture on high ISO, so the camera can't focus. I use a 40cm*40cm photo studio on Greek dayligh...

Re: A large one
A functional object? do you really see pipes in that way? then why it has shape? a chamber and an airhole do the job. And of course is not only art, thats why it got holes so in every shape is has an idea behind it, and ideas are wider than the shape itself. Thats what Plato wrote, and then gave &qu...

Re: Teipen Straight Bulldog
Nice work, but I believe that there is an issue on the top of your shank.
Dunhill has a slight taper to the stem while yours has a "negative" taper to the stem.
Great job on the bottom and really nice grain.

Re: A large one
Thank you all for your comments, I really apreciate them. Did you wind up with a touch of stem material which was wider than the shank when you were done? Before sandblasting the acrylic stem was sanded up to 600grit, after sandblasting I just did 800 and 1000 sanding and then buffing. I don'...

A large one
The biggest pipe I'e ever made, a freehand dublin with just over 16cm length. A large piece of long-aged briar and an acrylic rof for the stem along with plenty of time and I came up with this: http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/8418/64653050.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/1828/77762637.jpg ...

Re: Sandblasting: need some help here...
I've be thinking about buying sandblast machinery since March.
I found someone who sell an 4hp compresor and I think that with a 220lt blasting cabinet will be ok, or not?Is that 1hp of extra power have so much impact on the final result?

Re: Selling Pipes
It doesn't matter how many tools you have, if you're spending money on them ot how many hours you spend on a pipe. For me only the final design, frilling, finishing of your pipe can low or raise it's price. You can work 18 hours and come up with a baf looking pipe, or 7 hours and came up with a graet ...

For me there are two main design influences for pipemakers and smokers, english and dannish. English pipes: http://forum.pipeclub.gr/files/attachments/comoys_barling_307.jpg Mostly straight and factory-made pipes out of ebauchons, threir grain is random, especially till 30's when "straight grai...

More to come soon, we had the first pipe exhibition in Ahtens, so there are a lot of stuff to present.
