I'm impressed . . . not so much by the size as the work. Lovely.

Sorry, I've been away. Here's the link, but apparently they're out of stock on the 14" bed.

p.s. -- The cam-lock for the tailpost would also be much to your advantage if you go with this (or similar) lathe.

I went with the 7x10 back when they were going for $270 . . . and found the 7" throw was OK, but working with the 10" bed was reminiscent of trying to work on my MGA's engine: very cramped. One of the guys on here posted a link to LittleMachineShop.com and I bought a 14" bed for the l...

Ronny, I'm betting there are quite a few of us who, for one reason or another, are no longer members of (or allowed on) that board, so we can't see your pipe. As Nick said, Bummer.

. . . make sure that your drill press has lots of vertical room . . . Amen and amen to that! When I started, I grabbed for an inexpensive bench drill press, and boy have I regretted it ever since! Floor mounted is the way to go on this item! . . . it'll probably be YEARS before I can sneak another ...

Jeff, very, very nice. And your photos -- @ 24 bits/pixel -- are friendly to us dial-up types! Come up on the screen quickly, but still are plenty viewable. Thanks for sharing.

Kidding aside, Rad, a lot of us are praying for you. (Some, to heal quickly. Others, that you'll be more careful in the shop.) We expect some updates, here, when you feel up to it.

Rad, the stummel's OK, I hope? How long's it been since you built a campfire of stem-rod shavings behind your lathe? No, no; I'm not accusing you of being accident prone! Perish the thought! These things happen. . . (but so OFTEN to you!).

Or you could say, VERY nice work! That's an extremely comfortable looking pipe; there's a lot to be said for traditional shapes --- especially when they're done so elegantly.

Ah . . . you've got a workroom like mine --- a walk-in freezer during the winter, eh? I hear you talkin'. More and more, I find, I'm not the only one with that problem. In fact, it seems a majority of the guys here are in the same boat. Maybe someday soon I'd better quit witchin' about it.

Michael, I have read somewhere that one should always keep one finger in the tobacco chamber when buffing. I think one of the things that makes this work is the fact that you have to actually think about how you're holding the pipe, instead of concentrating only on the finish.

Nick, now DAT's a sea horse! I'd know it anywhere! Nice job.

I also like the dish, though it looks --- maybe just the photos (a bit underexposed?) --- as though the stem-shank joint is a little iffy? Nice concept, though.

Heinz, it occurs to me that, since we're using digital cameras, we could easily use plain old tungsten lights and, if necessary, fine tune by setting the white color balance as, I think, Kurt suggested elsewhere. With this easy solution, I reiterate my own suggestion of using a double-pole double-th...
