Re: TransTint dyes?
The problem is I can't find Fiebing's locally. I went on a search today and came up empty. Looks like I'll have to order it online. Was just wondering if color-wise it matched up to Fiebing? I think that's the issue is trying to get a consistent color with it.

Re: fibeling dyes
I've tried both letting the dye air dry and burning it off. When I burn it off, it will be dry as soon as the flame goes out but it leaves a film that is more difficult to sand out. Would cutting the dye with alchohol help reduce the film? From what I've read, it's the burning that leaves a greenis...

TransTint dyes?
So...anyone else tried TransTint dyes? They can be mixed with alcohol or water. http://www.homesteadfinishingproducts.com/htdocs/TransTint.htm Curious as to how it compares to something like Fiebing's for staining pipes. I used it for my first pipe since I have some on hand, but unsure if I'd want t...

My First.......
My first ever pipe. Not my "first pipe because the others I made were garbage and don't count", but my very first. Made from a pre-drilled block w/stem from PIMO. Shaped with a saw, rasps and files, lots of sandpaper, and buffed with a power drill. I didn't have any of the leather dyes tha...

Which is why I have it aroundSasquatch wrote: It is ridiculously ridiculous for making things sharp.
Oh well, I guess I'll go ahead and spend the $5 or so for some tripoli. Thanks Sas.

Honing Compound instead of tripoli?
Just curious if I could use http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.a ... 1,43072%20 in place of tripoli? Not sure if it's the same, but it seems like similar stuff.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Tenon too tight..from kit.
Thanks Sas....seemed best to just sand down the tenon, so I'll give that a go when I'm ready to get started.

Tenon too tight..from kit.
To get me started in making my own pipe, I've gone the traditional route of the PIMO book and a pre-drilled kit. The problem is the tenon is much too tight and doesn't fit the mortise. So...what would be the best way to fix this? My first inclination is to sand down the tenon, but I'd like to hear f...
