Re: Looking for Lathes in all the wrong places?

I'm no expert. But, I'll offer you my opinion anyway. Looks like a South Bend 9. Can't tell if it is an A B or C. Motor looks "new". Hard to tell the condition of the ways from the picture. It does come with a milling attachment with the offset base, which came with my 10K and I sold on eb...

Re: Tool bit help

You can put a center in the head stock or tail stock and line up your tool bit with the center's point. I've seen people use a rule between the work piece and tool bit. If the tool bit is on center the rule will be vertical. There are specialty centering tools out there too. But I don't see the need...

My rods arrived yesterday. Power is still out so I can't destroy any of them yet.

Thanks Wayne

Haven't received mine yet either. But, we had a big storm on Saturday and there was no postal delivery. I haven't had power since anyway.

Re: Group Ebonite buy

I was in for 2 black, 1 cumberland in 22mm

But, if there is enough interest in the 18mm rod, I would switch that to 3 black and 2 cumberland. If you don't need the extra size, you are paying 13 euros more to make chips per rod. Sorry to complicate things.

Very nice pipe. I like the orientation of the palm grain. The log book is awesome too.

The nameplates were bought from a guy who posts on the practicalmachinist southbend forum, jkull.

Really nice guy too.

New 1955 Southbend 9A lathe

Just finished restoring my Southbend 9A.

I still need to get a chuck for holding briar. Any opinions on Oneway vs Trent Rudat's or waiting to see what Todd Johnson produces.

Re: payment options - advice needed.....

yeah, I missed that extra 1% fee. But it looks like PayPal would be 3.9% +.30 too. Anyway, it looks like Google Checkout is only good for US/UK merchants.

Re: payment options - advice needed.....

How about Google Checkout? No monthly fee. reasonable rates and there are a bunch of ways to use it. I like the send and email invoice with a link to pay: https://checkout.google.com/seller/integrate_email.html
