Re: Lathe Accessories
Ive been looking a lot of places, mainly ebay, harbor freight, and craigslist. I actually dont really know what kind of lathe is good for pipe making either. Can you get away with a mini lathe or is there not enough hp there to do anything with it?

Im looking to buy a lathe from ebay and i was wondering what would be some good accessories to buy to help me to make pipes.
p.s. The only time i have ever used a lathe was in college which was 5 years ago so ive pretty much forgotten anything i learned

Now, i dont know much about wood properties, and this is probably a really dumb questions, but is black walnut black or just a really dark shade of brown, that might be what i have acquired.

Hobby lathe
I found this hobby lathe on grizzly.com, and it is basically a lathe that substitutes a motor for your own hand held drill. This seems like it wouldnt be a very good tool to have in ones shop BUT...the price is oh so good . Any ideas?

Re: Shaping seems difficult.
I had no idea that maple would be a good wood to make a pipe out of. I also have read that some woods can be carcinogenic and are not good to smoke out of.

Re: Shaping seems difficult.
Is walnut a good wood to make pipes out of? I know that briar is the primo wood to make pipes out of but that isnt readily available where i live, it is also out of my price range. I got a 3X3X3 piece of walnut for $8.00. Or should i quit wasting my time and buy a briar block.
