Question: A good set of bits?

Okay guys, As I finalize my order, let me let our friend emoticon show you exactly what my brain feels like... :bangin: That being said, here's what I've gathered is the best setup/system, for drilling stems- keeping in mind that I am using a lathe. Please feel free to correct me and make suggestion...

X-Ray Vision

Okay guys, I'm in the process of placing my orders for the last of my supplies and I plan on drilling and carving the stems for the next batch... so... that brings me to my question... Does anyone have a cutaway diagram (and or a picture of a stem cut in half) so I can see what it's supposed to like...

Re: Chuck For Stem

I have no idea if those jaws will fit your chuck, sorry I can't offer any wisdom there. However, Teknatool makes a very similar set of jaws for all of their Nova chucks - the 1" Pin Jaws: http://www.teknatool.com/products/Chuck_Accessories/Pin.htm http://www.teknatool.com/products/Chuck_Access...

Re: Chuck For Stem

I use the One Way #1 Spigot jaws for stems... Will fit a Nova chuck, too. http://www.penguinbriar.com/cust/make3/12.JPG Have you used this jaws with the Nova chuck? I was told that they would not fit my chuck. Then again, maybe it's my specific chuck that is the issue... The Nova Precision Midi Chu...

Chuck For Stem

Okay guys, I have a Delta LA200 and I would like to acquire a "long-nosed" chuck with a small enough diameter to grip rod stock. Does anyone know of a chuck that will do this?

Okay, here is an inexpensive set that seems to come pretty close to encompassing all of the advice that I've been getting...

Re: Opinions on Craftsman Lathe Tools

Kurt,

I've noticed that you use an oval skew quite a bit. What is the difference between a bowl gouge and skew chisel/ what jobs will they perform most often?

Re: Opinions on Craftsman Lathe Tools

Sas,

Thanks for breaking it down for me.

How big of a role does handle/blade length play when turning a pipe? Does it make any difference, or does that really only come into play with larger pieces?

Cheers,

WTB Mini Lathe Stand

Does anyone out there have a lathe stand, that will fit a Delta LA200, that they are interested in selling? Barring that, do you you know of a good place to but them?

Sasquatch wrote:Good show. Buy the best quality turning tools you can find. Far better to have a few good ones (HSS) than a crappy set. The Henry Taylor Mini set is great and if you add a 1/2" gouge to that, you're ready for pipes.
Hey Sas,

Do you know of a good place to purchase that set?

Thanks,

Re: Any experience with this lathe?

I have to laugh when I step back and take a look at myself out there standing on my porch in a cloud of sawdust and people walk down the sidewalk looking at me as if I'm the local "cat-lady", or when my neighbors basketball comes rolling into my yard, or when my mailman walks up and hands ...

Re: Any experience with this lathe?

Thanks for all of the input and advice guys, it is really appreciated. Simeon: I probably should've mentioned that space and size are also a big factors for me. I live in a small duplex and will actually be doing my work on my front porch. That means that I need a rig that I can carry in and out. I'...

for $225 that is in "like new" condition.

Has anyone out there ever owned or used it?

Thanks,
