Re: Poker again
How heavy is olive compared to briar? I have no idea how it is in general. I'm sure there's someone out there who could answer that. This pipe is maybe a bit on the heavy side for it size. It weighs 48 gram. I can also report that the stem did not melt after the first smoke. :D I have also learned ...

Re: New workshop
Yeah, it's pretty great to have windows in the shop. Although I feel I almost always need extra light anyway to really see what I'm doing. Maybe it's time to clean them windows...mredmond wrote:That is a really great space. Those windows! I'd love to have all that natural light.

Re: Poker again
As is though, that's a nice thin bit you got there! My criticism is your slot is off center though :P Just take a bit more care when cutting it. Widening it to final dimension with needle files also helps. It is a tiny bit off center although not as much as it looks on the pic. And the problem is m...

Poker again
I got a block of olive wood as a gift when I ordered briar last time. I cut of a piece from that block to try and see if I could turn it on my lathe. Well, I sort of could... The drilling was a bit tricky though. And I also wanted to try to make a really thin bit, as practise. Here it is. Critic is ...

I would trade my workshop for the skill to make really good pipes anyday!
Re: Egg?
Thanks for all the comments guys.
@Jonathan. The last pic is taken just after buffing after sanding 400 grit. And I only wanted to shot a photo with the stem straight.

Re: Egg?
My thought on the stem, is that the top line feels too abrupt. I imagine it flowing smoothly through a curve. I think the short taper may have done it a disservice for sure. Yeah, I can totally see what you mean. But how to achieve that without fucking up the other side?? Pipe making is bloody diff...

That looks like a really nice first pipe! Congrats. I'm sure your dad really likes it.

Re: New workshop
Yes, I could have guessed that just as easily ! The condition of the wood speaks of great age. I was going by the style of construction that most craftsman havent had the patience for in the last century and a half. Man what I would give for some of that lumber ! Just a bit from the sections that h...

Re: New workshop
Thanks guys! Yeah, I'm pretty happy with the space. Has lots of potential. It's only the beginning. And the best thing is that it's rent free!! The space belongs to our appartment. A couple of heaters wouldn't do much in the long run. The space is around 65 square meters big and it's about 7...

New workshop
I finally started improving my workshop. Although it looks pretty nice (the room that is, not the "machinery") I come to realize it's not the most practical in the world. It's above our appartment, three stories up (which made getting my new lathe up there a pain in the ass). It has a real...

Re: Two Pokers
Thanks for the comments, Ocelot. I'm having a bit of troubles with the poker shape, can't really get it right. The not typical proportions was a choice I made and it might have been a bad choice. Maybe because I wouldn't be able to make a poker "right".

Re: Two Pokers
Thanks for your comments.
I don't know if I shot with a wide angle. I have a pretty crappy camera and no basically nothing about photografy. But the pipes do look like that also in real life (sorry to say...)
The first pipe is rusticated. I'm not so very found of the rustication on the shank either.

Two Pokers
Hi guys, it's been some time since I last posted. So much time that I actually had to look for the button where to make a new topic... Well, here are two pokers. I got a commision of a poker, made two just to be sure, sort of. I would love your input on both these pipes. There are quite some misstak...
