Re: PITH 2020!

Nboothe, just a suggestion but maybe you could try a round shank. Unless you junction is perfectly square to lines on the diamond shank you will have gaps. Also try not to bring your taper on your stem all the way up to the shank. Leaving a small amount of shank profile on the stem will be more appe...

Re: PITH 2020!

IMG_20200506_181734_565.jpg Well here is my submission. I hope it provides many years on great smokes and enjoyment to whomever recieves it. I chose the Rhodisian because I prefer the look and flow of the design. The pipe features a German Ebonite stem (cut tenon) with Faux Ivory and Ebonite recess...

Re: What lathe to get?

What is your budget is first question to answer. I would recommend at least have $1000.00 to spend on a decent lathe and some tooling to get started. Never buy cheap tooling. Re: PITH 2020!

Here are a couple of rhodesians I have so far. I'll probably do another or 2 and a couple of bulldogs before the deadline. More than likely I will just let whomever gets mine pick from what i have available.

Re: PITH 2020!

A little video on my YouTube of starting a Rhodesian for this PITH. I may do a couple more before the dead line depending on how this one comes out. To be honest if the grain is flawless it may go up for sale.

Re: PITH 2020!

I think I'm understanding this Carvers choice correctly. So we are free to decide between a Rhodesian or Bulldog without parameters?

Re: Chuck and tool help.

I use the Nova G3 with VF briar jaws and they work fine. I have a separate G3 with pen jaws on them so I dont have to switch back and forth. Just switch the whole chuck when I'm ready for stems. My only suggestion about chisels is be careful and read the description. I've been turn wood for 20 yrs a...
