Re: Public Service Message regarding authors & similar

The original is not too bad but its curve is more of an angle. The replacement is much better.

Re: Public Service Message regarding authors & similar

The difference is very noticeable. Peterson is not a high end pipe. Good for them for getting it right I have to say, the more time I spend on this forum, the more critical I get. I would not have noticed this a year ago. The retail sites have $500 Dunhills and Castellos with 'flaws' that would inst...

Re: PITH 2020!

My only concern would be that this could require additional tooling expenses for those of us beginners. In other words, I have one 3/4" spade and one 3/4" forstner for drilling chambers. I have one long bit for drilling airways. If the dimensions are different from that I will have to buy ...

Re: Here's something you don't see every day

Maybe its just the lighting, but LLs stems look better shaped and more elegant than the original particularly in the 'waist' area.

Re: Chuck and tool help.

Mine doesn't either, until I've got stummel swinging around in there  I have tested it with an average size stummel and its okay. Ifit starts to move around I'll either find a way to bolt it down to the concrete shelf, which is a really good location, or I'll make a stand for it. I always rota...

Re: Chuck and tool help.

Here is the finished set up. It is sitting on a broad concrete shelf in my basement. The lathe is not bolted down but it does not vibrate or move. It weighs 150 pounds. The chuck is a Nova G3, jaws from VF, no-name keyless drill chuck in the tail stock. https://pipesmokersdens.com/attachments/img_14...

Re: Metal airway tube in Dunhills

So the owner can remove the tube, clean it and then re-insert it? I wonder if they get too tight or too loose the way a stem tenon does. Also, I am seeing this on new/current production Dunhills so it is still being done apparently. Very interesting.

Metal airway tube in Dunhills

I have been looking at pictures of Dunhill bulldogs and Rhodesians in preparation for the PITH. Looking into the pipe chamber it looks like the airway is made of or lined with a metal tube, tip angled almost like a hypodermic needle where it enters the chamber. Is this correct? And if so, what is th...

I'm assuming the block of wood he inserted at the base was his depth gauge. I bet he had one for every pipe shape.

Repaired bowl with plaster of Paris. Seems to have worked well. Will have to see if it holds up to a few smokings.

Re: Chuck and tool help.

Here is a picture of the setup. I do not like the Craftsman workbench shown in the picture. It tightened up pretty well but overall is to flimsy and the headstock/motor hangs off the end. I'll make a stand for it myself in the next week or so. 4 jaw chuck and drill chuck arrive tomorrow. Waiting to ...

Re: Chuck and tool help.

Maybe answering my own questions. From looking at other tailstock parts diagrams I am assuming that the "push rod" is threaded into the tailstock sleeve even though it does not look threaded in the sketchy diagram in the parts manual. So I am assuming that this black push rod is seized in ...
