At the intersection I place a dot of 2 part epoxy and let it set up. I put a sharpened point into the tailstock of my lathe and slide the pipe onto a spinning bit. As long as the pin in the tailstock stays put and the drill bit goes in where it should you end up with perfect alignment every time. T...

Re: I own the Rolando Negiota "Katana" Pipe...

yellowking - So you really like Rolando's Katana pipe moreso than the Tom Etlang? I actually commissioned Rolando to do the Katana pipe for me. Well, you are a lucy person. I like them both, but prefer the katana. To me, it's really nice how it maintains a relatively traditional pipe shape while in...

WBill wrote:The brass adapter was made by a guy on the Yahoo Mini Lathe forum who sent it to me, he has the same set up and had a spare. A piece of 3/4 16TPI rod will work just as well.
Do you hold the adapter in a normal chuck? UPDATE: Yes, I see previously in the thread that you do.

I quit using a Dremel for much more than minor hits. I cut off as much as I can, use disk and belt sanders to get pretty close, then finish up with several hand rasps and files. I make fewer mistakes and find it a more rewarding process, although it's not any faster.

If you want info on the metal mini-lathes, check out http://www.mini-lathe.com/ . They're all made by the same factory in China; in fact http://www.littlemachineshop.com/ used to have a photo tour of the factory. I see a lot of people running them down because they're imports, but there is a HUGE, a...

I just did my first delrin tenon/mortise. http://www.littleleadheroes.com/gallery/albums/pipe-015/aaf.sized.jpg In both cases, I drilled a hole, epoxied the delrin into place, and then worked the material as normal. I used delrin to bypass inlay material and glue joints (and because it sounded like ...

Introduction

Howdy. I know some of you from Smoker's Forums, but most of you are new to me. I've been fooling around with pipes for about a year and a half now, and have been lurking here a while. You can find pictures of all of mine here , but here are the last three I've done, the first ones done entirely by m...
