Re: Acorn...

Re: Canted Billiard...

Try getting rid of the busy background in your photos, it does nothing but detract. Plain white will do nicely, something like this is convenient and inexpensive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GKFWWIW/ref=twister_B07G7WQMDW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1. A piece of glossy white plastic is next level. You a...

Re: Ashtray...

It's an amazing challenge to think of coming up with a wood finish when the standard meal is a root vegetable baked in embers and ash. First thing that came to mind was rendered Kangaroo fat :). It sounds like your really limited on resources, if you can get mineral oil from a drugery and heat it to...

Re: Completed First Pipe ever...

Your rim looks like it may be slightly convex, I had a similar rim finishing issue recently. Another board member suggested that If you make the rim straight or slightly convex it will be much easier to get a good finish on (I am talking about the shape of the rim specifically, not the relationship ...

Re: Maloof style low-back

Its definitely an arts and crafts thing, honestly I am not sure I am super fond of his stuff either. But as a design student he is an excellent study, his pieces are extremely challenging and his methodology is admirable. The chair only has 6 joints on it, no stretchers or skirts to reinforce it, no...

Beautiful pipe

This looks like the same guy, 13 years later looks even younger.. he never ages! Just goes from set to set and changes his name -- could he really be a wizard?

Re: Billiard #8 Oval shank

I think ordering some 1/4" delrin will be on my to do list for the week, I only have 5/16 and the wood lathe is too difficult to accurately turn tenons on.

Maloof style low-back

This was a several month long project I recently finished. Maloof style joints, somewhat reflective of his lowback design with a few design twists. The chair is fitted to me, I will probably never make another for a plethora of reasons, but this one is certainly pretty. Materials: Claro walnut, hide...

Re: Billiard #8 Oval shank

Your right on, thank you for taking the time to reply I appreciate the insight. The mortise wall is even around, I need to pay more attention to the angle at which I am photographing, it really looks off in the photos... the camera is not my preferred tool. The curve on the shank was due to a lack o...

Enterprise will rent you a 24' truck with a Tommy gate on it. Safe, easy no worries about balance.

Billiard #8 Oval shank

In preparation for this years PITH I have decided to begin working on the oval shank, this has been labeled number 8 I have had several failure since my last posting and this is the first pipe in a while that I have felt good enough to number and post (I try to produce 3-4/week with the hope the int...

Of course you need it.
If I lived within a few hundred miles I would need it.
