Sanding disks

I was always told that there are no stupid questions, but this one may appear to border on it.

Why do some sanding disks have holes--some six, some eight holes--and other disks do not have the holes.

Which type is better for stummel shaping and which type for stummel final sanding?

Hey Jim

Thanks. That's obviously what I need. Now let's see if it's a decent product. Thanks for the research.

Jacobs Chuck dilemma

I've got a used 1/2 hp 1725 rpm motor with a 5/8" shaft. I want to get a Jacobs chuck for it, but am having a hard time finding one locally that fits the shaft. What do I need to search for online?

Thanks for your help

I went to the web site and can't find a metal lathe anywhere. Under what listing on the web page did you look. I'l like to see the lathe.

Jeff

I found several motors in the 1725 rpm range. Is this adequate for both shaping the stummel and also for buffing?

If you help me with my pipe making, I'll help you with your Greek. Used to be on faculty at SBTS in Louisville, Kentucky.

Thank you. I have looked at the Jet lathe. By the time you buy a wood lathe and a metal lathe, the Jet lathe makes sense.

Thanks again.

Small metal lathe

Are there any small metal lathes, like the Cummins Mini Lathe, that will work for both shaping stummels and cutting stems?
