smokindawg lathe tools
Hey all, my garage was recently broken into and one of the items stolen was my lathe chuck made by smokindawg. Not sure if he still makes and sells those (I did message him), but if not is there another option out there for a similar chuck?

Re: #3- Billiard
Charl I used multiple coats of ebony black stain from Vermont Freehand. I did a contrast stain then decided to just do all black, so stain, sand, repeat. Unfortunately, when I sanded through my stem(s) I ended up sanding down the shank trying to match them back up, now there is not enough briar left...

#3- Billiard
Learning a lot while making these pipes, I had the joy of sanding through to the airway on not one, but two ebonite stems... :banghead: I then made a stem out of acrylic so I would have some ebonite rod leftover... I ended up cracking my shank again while fitting the second stem, I repaired it with ...

Re: #2 freehand
Thanks, Sandahl. The airway thing was a complete moment of pure stupidity, it was almost perfect but I needed the airway to go a tiny bit further, so I drilled the chamber more thinking that was the smart thing to do, dumb. :banghead: live and learn... When you say the button is too big in all direc...

Originally this was going to be a bent apple, but I snapped off the shank in my lathe and had to improvise a new shape. I am really happy with this one, it, of course, has a couple of issues (again I launched it while polishing, putting some small marks on the bowl) but I am pretty pleased with it. ...

Thanks, Doc!
Re: #11 Lovat
Thank you Mr. Dibos. I've already seen your video tutorial about stem (button to be exact) shaping. It's a great source of knowledge. The problem is, it's so damn hard to make a proper stem. Even when I know the rules. Would you mind sharing a link for this tutorial video please? Having difficulty ...

Re: Bent Apple template ok?
Thanks, guys. I went for it and then had my heart broken. While turning the shank my lathe tool caught the briar and snapped the shank clear off, about 1/4" from the bowl shank junction... I was able to salvage it but now I am gonna have another nose warmer... Ahwell, another lesson learned I s...

Bent Apple template ok?
Before I transfer this to briar I was hoping to get some feedback. Does this shape seem correct for a bent apple shape? This will be my 2nd pipe where I do the drilling and create the stem, I would like it to be as accurate as possible. The black outline is the initial shape, the green is where I tw...

Poker #1 - first drilled and shaped pipe
Here is my first attempt at a pipe in which I did all of the drillings and also created the stem. I learned a ton on this pipe (did you know a pipe can reach the side of my shop in under a second, things like a briar missile when the buffer catches it...) I know there are issues that I see: The stem...

Poker nose warmer?
Hey, all. This is my first solo pipe, I did all of the drilling myself and made my own stem, I understand this is a learning process and they will get better with time, aka it's a little rough... Last night while fitting my stem I cracked the shank, it was only about a 1in. crack and I was able to t...

lol thanks kamkiel, I plan on doing that just to practice my finishing on. May even make a custom stem for it to practice those as well.

Re: Poker outline
Thanks, guys! I was definitely confused about the tapered bit, not sure what I was thinking... I ended up making the bowl depth shorter and drilling straight in (non-tapered bit  ), I actually like this design much more! That is why I asked, you guys saved me before I began :D In all honesty w...
