Re: Apple

Thanks Sas and Charl.

Sas, I really like what you did with my pipe. It's pretty obvious it looks better with your corrections. I just have to teach my hands and eyes to work together. Easier said than done.

Re: Apple

Thank you guys. My apologies but I have forgotten about posting this topic. If possible, the next step toward improvement is to get one of your pipes into the hands of a professional and ask for comment. Visiting other pipe makers' shops will also help. I'm not sure how many are realistically close ...

Apple

Hi guys. It's been a while since my last post in gallery. I've made few pipes since that time but I didn't post them because I know what was wrong with them. But here is a pipe. I know there is something not right, I just don't know what. http://i.imgur.com/aRwGg2m.jpg http://i.imgur.com/mN3BroZ.jpg...

Re: Crosspost from Facebook: First Non-kit Pipe

#1's usually pick up the technical side of pipe making quickly, but find producing something aesthetically noteworthy to be challenging #2's usually start making interesting/creative shapes straight away, but usually lack patience when it comes to the principles and physics of tools and the need fo...

#16 Dublin

I have tried as best I could to use your comments from my previous pipe. Is it still Dublin? I'm not sure. But I kind of like it. I'd love to hear what you think about it. http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p454/Vaymar/16%20Dublin/1_zpsnlqpnyfo.jpg http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p454/Vaymar/16%2...

Thanks. It's fairly easy to achieve. All you need is a large tile.
I'm too lazy to use a light tent ;)

#15 Longshanked Dublin

Sorry guys for my long absence. During last couple of weeks time is a luxury good for me. Self critique: - Shank is too fat - Slot is rather gigantic. It wasn't my intention to make it that way - As I'm looking at the photos right now, I would have left the outer edge of the rim sharp instead of rou...

#14 Straight egg

I don't want to say it's my last attempt of that shape. I'll make one more but that's it. Maybe then it will be successful. And pay no attention to that stem. It will be changed too. There wasn't much I could do about these flaws. I'm trying to figure out how to rusticate this pipe. The point is I d...

#13 Billiard

Hi guys. Sorry for showing unfinished pipe but it's easier to apply any changes before it's finished. Also please, try not to focus on the stem. This pre-molded stem will be soon changed for the hand cut one. Before I start, I'd like to thank to all you guys for your time and help. I finally feel I'...

Re: #10 Longshanked poker?

Great tip, Doc. I'll give it a try in future pipes. In this particular pipe I'd like to keep it as it is. It gives a nice impression of vintage pipe with burned rim.

Re: #12 Egg

Thank you Jeremiah. 2. The rim was neglected in sanding prior to the staining. Looks like perhaps tearout or just not sanded smoothly enough. Proper sanding is important to getting a good contrast stain. It happens when I polish the rim on buffing wheel. If I push too hard I end up with rounded rim....

I was about to start another lovat when I found this topic: http://www.pipemakersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=10031&hilit=egg I believe I owe Scottie some apologies for such a lousy interpretation of her pipe ;) Sorry, I did the best I could. Again, I didn't manage to handle with the...

Re: #10 Longshanked poker?

Hi folks. Thanks you so much for all your comments. Quick update: I just wasn't ready to throw this pipe on a pile along with all others and decided to improve the contrast staining. I haven't changed anything else. http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p454/Vaymar/10%20Long-shanked%20poker%20-%20Updat...

Re: #11 Lovat

Thank you Mr. Dibos. I've already seen your video tutorial about stem (button to be exact) shaping. It's a great source of knowledge.
The problem is, it's so damn hard to make a proper stem. Even when I know the rules.

#11 Lovat

Hello guys. I've just finished my second lovat. It was was my 5th pipe when I faced with that shape for the first time. I believe that my 11th pipe shows some progress. I'd say stem and contrast staining look better. I think I've finally found the right way and just need to improve it. Tomorrow I'm ...
