Removing stain from Blasts

Hey folks! Hope everyone is getting ready for Chicago. I am kinda stuck with some finishing stuff. I have tried a bunch of things and just can't get the results I'm looking for. I am having lots of trouble removing my first layer of stain from my blasts. I have wiped until nothing else comes off wit...

Re: Cutting the V slot

Hey Sasquatch, which X-acto saw blades do you use? The keyhole or the square ones? I imagine if you use the square you have to grind them.

Sandblast Staining

So I have been trying to teach myself the fine art of blasting pipes. I've finally gotten the blast I've been looking for! Now I'm on to staining. I've stained and restained old mess up blocks practicing. I'm trying to figure out how to remove stain from a blasted pipe. Right now I'm rubbing the pip...

Re: Sandblasting

Thank! I'll keep that in mind! Do y'all reuse media from your vacuum system? Mine has tiny particles of briar in it. Didn't know if that would clog my gun.

Re: Sandblasting

My cabinet may take some modification to get a bigger diameter into my cabinet but no big deal. I'm ordering some new hose and fittings now.

What gun and nozzle do you recommend?!

Re: Sandblasting

The hose is whatever size all the Lowes hoses are. They all looked the same diameter. I'm using a Eastwood benchtop.

Sandblasting

So, I have been blasting with my new cabinet for a couple days now and things are going great. I'm really looking for a little more aggressive blast and can't figure out how to accomplish this. Here are my current settings. 120psi @ 17CFMs Extra Fine 170-320 grit glass bead #7 knozzle (tried the 4-6...

Re: Sandblasting help

Yeah guys, I've already found a spot in the building for my cabinet. It's at my work so when I get ready to blast, I'll just bring the briar to work and blast those puppies.

Re: Sandblasting help

Ok, so sometimes the good Lord just gives you what you need. Was talking to one of the maintenance guys at the outdoor adventure camp I work at and he said, the compressor in the waste water treatment plant is pretty big. Can you use that one? This is what I found. I think that 18 CFM at 175psi will...

Re: Sandblasting help

Well fellas, I've spent all morning in the shop trying to blast with my old 30 gal. I've used every tip that came with my gun and I still don't have a finished blast on a pipe. FRUSTRATED. I only had budgeted the cabinet and all the accessories. Now I'm looking at trying to buy a compressor that wil...

Re: Sandblasting help

I looked at compressors online that will push that CFM and dang, those are expensive. Not sure I've heard of a pressure pot. What are they?

Re: Sandblasting help

I looked at my compressor and my issue could be my CFM is only 7! It's a 30 gal compressor too.

Sandblasting help

Hey folks! Just bought my brand new shiny blast cabinet. I also included a pressure control and a water trap. Everything is functioning properly. When I begin blasting my briar, it doesn't blast material off hardly at all! I am using a #4 nozzle, running around 90psi from my compressor, and using ex...

Turning Stummels

Folks I'm a new pipe maker trying to teach myself how to turn on a lathe. I'm having trouble rechucking and realigning in my jaws if I remove the block before turning. I am using Steve's Jaws. My holes are lining up nicely but if I take the block out of the jaws, I just can't ever get it lined back ...
