Thanks!

Fixable or firewood??
I made a bent billiard for myself a year or so ago, and over the weekend after finishing a bowl I noticed a funny looking spot on the shank. Not being one to let anything unusual alone, I scraped at it with my fingernail only to expose a small hole going through to the draft hole- a sand pit or some...
Re: Zulu
Thanks to all for the kind words! Your comments are greatly appreciated. I really took an insane amount of time making this pipe, trying to refine all the details, and it paid off. Made two stems, and also sanded it to bare wood and re-stained it twice. The only thing I see that could be improved is...

Re: Bad Ebonite???
Just an update- I was in contact with Mark from American Art Plastics this week. He said that they are just finishing up the final testing of the ebonite suitable for pipe stems. They want any issues to be taken care of before a full production run. Mark is great to deal with, and offered either rep...

Re: Bad Ebonite???
Kind of what I thought. I don't think I'd be able to get them out- it seems like the closer to the center of the stem I go, the worse they get!
I'll call them in the morning and see if they'll do anything about it. Thanks!

Bad Ebonite???
While buffing out the latest pipe I was working on, what looks like tiny holes (air pockets?) appeared near the button. I didn't notice them during sanding must have been filled with dust. Closer to the tenon, where the stem is thicker, there doesn't seem to be any. The rod came from American Art Pl...

Re: First pipe of the New Year
Beautiful job on the blast! Have to agree with what has already been said about the button. A little too large for me. I think you nailed the rest though. Looks great!

If you need someone to gift this pipe to, I would gladly volunteer myself, Nice job, so far. LOL!! I'll keep that in mind when I get it done. Haven't had much time to do much with it since, but I'll post pics when I get it finished. thanks to all who offered input. It's greatly appreciated.

Re: Before I go too far...
Sas, I'm sure you are right- I just hate finishing a pipe just to have someone say it could have been so much better with a few changes. Just trying to eliminate the middle man on this one so to speak. I am planing to give the stem just a slight bend, maybe like an 1/8 bent or something like that. I...

Before I go too far...
First off, thanks to Wayne and JMG for commenting on my last post. All feedback I get is greatly appreciated. I did take the time to make a new stem about 3/4" shorter before gifting that pipe, and it did look much better. Thanks again for the advice. That leads me to my next question- I'm curr...

Two New Ones
After finally slowing down at work (road construction) and catching up on most everything I let go around the house all summer long, I was able to get back into the garage over the past few weeks and come up with these two. This bent brandy was intended from the beginning to be a X-Mas gift for a fr...

Re: Would it be wrong...
Thanks to those who took time to reply. I suppose I knew all along the stem needed a lot of trimming, and posted out of frustration, and looking for a kick in the ass not to take the easy way out. I have been working at it a little at a time (busy at work along with a few other things going on right...

Re: hunting for a blend
The last few months I've found myself reaching for Gentleman Callers from C&D more then anything. Be ready to dedicate a pipe to it though- it leaves a very strong ghost.

Tim West at JH Lowe has delrin tenons already made in various sizes. Give him a call to see if he has what you need.

You shouldn't be shy about posting this one! I love it!
Like you, I enjoy looking at the work others have done. It really helps me to better understand what makes a pipe go from good to great. Now my problem is just being able to do it better.
Thanks for sharing.
