sand blaster
It seems Everyone on this forum has a sandblaster and I will never have one. It is just not fair, Norm.

Re: First attempt at a blowfish
What Premal and Jeremiah say are good things, but to me you missed the mark entirely. Sure the shape is interesting, but a blowfish should be about following the grain and in that respect this pipe could use a lot of modification. On the next one loose your preconceived notions of what you think the...

One at a time or multi task
I was wondering how most made pipes. Do You just work on one pipe from start to finish or multiple pipes? I have found it better to work on two or three at a time, this lets Me look differently at a pipe after setting it down for a while and still be productive. If I have to glue something on one pi...

I once made a pipe like that and the Guy that critiqued it tore it apart, Norm.

Buffing, Norm.PremalChheda wrote:This shape is not wrong by any means. The drilling and angles are fine. The finish is uneven in a few areas. Due to buffing or application of finish? Shank is thick in proportion to the bowl.

Re: A Letter to Up-and-Comers on Pipe Critique
I understand what You are saying but My problem is in design. I guess I lack the good eyes or artistic ability to know what works. I post here hoping Someone will say stuff like that cant is wrong, or Your stem doesn't work with that stummel, and then I will know better. I also realize the pipe make...
Re: Dublin?
See Walt Cannoys' info on curved pipes Norm ,very helpful. Is that one of Walt's videos or on His website? I always learn a lot from Walt's videos. Thanks, Norm. He just posted this today. http://www.pipemakersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10658 Thank You, You probably didn't notice but s...

Re: No.10 Pipe for Critique
For a while I could not get critiques on My pipes and then I found I could count on Jeremiah to give an honest opinion. If He tells You something and 2-3 people agree with His comments You know He is probably right. If You disagree just let it go, there is nothing lost or gained. The connection betw...
Re: Dublin?
Oh boy, I did most of that on purpose. Well back to the drawing board. Thanks Jeremiah, Norm. Oh I forgot, does the shank look too thick?
Dublin?
I'm not sure this is a dublin but it is what I was trying to make. My main concern is if the shank is to thick. I still struggle with proportions and hope that can be learned. Any advice and critiques are very welcome, Norm. http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p761/notow1/dublin/dublin20002_zpsavyog...
Re: juma
Thanks Scottie, I looked at Their site and what I would want is out of stock. I am still on the fence so maybe I should wait a couple of Years until I am an expert on the standard material, Norm.

Re: My First Commission, Pipe #10
I am not qualified to give critiques but maybe I can offer some advice. I am asking a little more than You for My pipes and they are not flying out the door. Do You know that all Your pipes smoke well? If You don't then smoke Your first pipes and correct any problems, then make Your next without tho...
Re: juma
Okay, this sounds like it is a little more difficult to get a good shine. Is this softer than acrylic? Do You think the stem is more comfortable? I thought I might try it but I don't know how it compares, cost-wise, to ebonite or acrylic. Where do You purchase juma? Thanks for all the replies, Norm.
juma
I just saw this and it was advertised as material for making stems. It looks like it is used in making pool cues. has Anyone used this? Thanks, Norm.

Well, thanks for the advice and it is looking like half saddles are not popular. This is something I will keep in mind for future pipes. Thanks to All, Norm.

brass on shank
This pipe had 3 or 4 pits on the shank so I decided to put a longer brass tube on it. I thought the long piece of brass might look weird but a stem with a half saddle would help balance it. I would like to get some opinions as to whether this was a good idea or not. I may have to adjust My way of th...

Re: turning oversized tenon from scrap ebonite
I have done that and figured the piece was cursed and saved it for another use later, when the curse wore off, Norm.why not turn the tenon on the stem I'm using:
-because I drilled it for delrin but screwed up the mortice and had to re-drill the mortice oversized

Re: turning oversized tenon from scrap ebonite
Why wouldn't You just turn the tenon on the piece You are making the stem from? Norm.
