Re: Swappable stem made for Charatan Coronation

Gorgeous pipe, despite the shank being so off center even. Great work in the stem, as always.

Re: Chicago room

I'm not sure if my PM went through but my roommate had a family issue come up and can't make it to Chicago this year. I have a room to split from Wednesday through Sunday nights if you haven't already found something.

Re: Need help with chuck

With your current setup and a pre-drilled kit, I'd suggest chucking a wooden dowel in the 3 jaw and turn it to be a snug fit inside the bowl and/or mortise. Otherwise you'll have a hard time aligning the bowl and shank on the same axis they were drilled on, assuming that's your intention. This is ba...

Re: Anyone see an arbor press like this

I could see modifying a small drill press to be foot controlled (seeing the bike chain) and creating some kind of fixture to hold in the chuck that allows the rocking motion with interchangeable stamps.

Re: Compressor for sandblasting

Just to stir things up a bit more, I have a small compressor, 2hp/5.1 cfm@90 psi/10 gallon, that I use so it can be done with a smaller machine. I start blasting at 120 psi and, as DocAitch said, the pressure drops after about 30 seconds but my compressor has a very efficient pump and will maintain ...

Re: Billiard #8 Oval shank

Quite nice overall, finish looks good and bowl shape is nice and symmetrical. To my eye, you need to remove some more meat from: - the shank/bowl junction. The shank flares just before it meets the bowl and you lose the straight line, especially on the top of the shank. - the stem near where it meet...

Re: replacement nozzles / tips for Cyclone benchtop blaster?

Here's what I replaced mine with. The ceramic holds up much better than steel. There are lots of other nozzle options as well as orifices(?) available at MSC.

Contact Steve Norse (Vermont Freehand). He purchased PE and just got a bunch of their stock in this week. He has offered his own versions in the past and I'm sure he could help you out; he's a great guy to deal with.

Re: Bandsaws Blade

For TPI, the general rule of thumb is to have enough teeth to have at least 4 teeth, preferably 6, in the wood or whatever you are cutting to get a smooth cut. For typical briar blocks you could go as low as 4 TPI. If you're cutting rod stock and other thinner items as well you'd be better off with ...

Re: PITH 2016!!!!!!

Finished this up today since I'll have next to no time for pipemaking in the next 3 weeks. It's afairly small pipe but would be great for flakes and, with the army mount, will be a great pocket pipe that you can break down if needed. 4 5/8 long, 21 grams, 11/16 dia chamber. Shank cap is stabilized w...

Limo in Chicago?

I get to go to the Chicago show this year but wanted to see if anyone else would be getting into O'Hare airport around 12:30 on Friday that would be willing to share a cab or limo to the show. Thanks in advance.
