Re: Finished this one Saturday

Yep, I agree with yall. I didn't realize how bad the top looked until I looked at the pictures. I'm planning on revisiting this pipe for sure. I just need to take a break from this one. Actually, I've got one I need to do fer a friend. So, I probably rushed this one towards the end. I do really appr...

Re: Long time listener, first time poster...

I like the horn style anyways. I really like what you've created. I like the burl you left on it and the overall pipe itself. Thanks fer sharing.

Finished this one Saturday

Well, I finished this one Saturday. This was the shape that the block screamed to me that it wanted to be. I wanted to do a more classic shape, but the block just didn't want to cooperate, while sketching. So it is what is it. I'm kinda on the fence about it. One day I'm happy with it and like it. N...

I know I am still new to this hobby, so I may not offer a lot of constructive criticism, but I like it. I like the flow, and the stain. I have been thinking of doing a filter pipe myself. You have given me inspiration. Thanks fer sharing.

Re: The first to erupt in 2014

The cracks don't seem to go deep enough to get in the bowl. I checked the way you said and it all seems pretty tight. Thanks fer the tip, and kind words.

The first to erupt in 2014

Hi everyone. I started this volcano right after Christmas. I stained it last weekend, but with temperatures this week in the single digits, I didn't want to stand in front the breeze of a buffing wheel. So I waited until today when the temperature got into the low 40s. I've got a good friend at work...

Re: Poker

Thanks fer the input. I should've stained a bit lighter on this one I think. Also, after the first stain, I noticed a scratch that I tried to get out afterwards. So I may have sanded that area a bit more before hitting it with the next stain. And I did get a few spots that I know of a little heavier...

Hi. I've been working on this here and there for awhile. I'll pick it up and work on it awhile. Then put it down to do some other project. I decided I wanted it to be finished before Christmas. So here it is. Sorry I couldn't get my lighting right for the pictures. Thanks fer looking. http://i1303.p...

Re: newbie freehand

Thanks guys. Nothing gets past you here. Actually the transition was better before I screwed it up. I had everything done and the transition, at least to me, looked better. I stained the pipe, then heated my stem to bend it. While heating it the Loctite turned loose. As hard as I tried to get that b...

newbie freehand

Well been fiddling with this one for a friend of my wife. He didn't want to put too much in it, so I got some Grade 2 blocks from Vermont Freehand. Overall grain was cool, but had some pitting around the shank and bowl facing the shank. Something happened when I drilled the shank and the hole got a ...

First Curchwarden

Well here's one I've been working on a little at the time. It took a while to get the bottom just right so it would sit up with the stem in it. It was a fun pipe to make. I learn quite a bit on it. During this pipe I got some small files and this one was the first that I did a lot of hand filing on ...

I know I'm new but I like it. I like the style of a bulldog. I know how it is trying to recover from mistakes and it seems like one mistake leads to another. Whether it be making pipes or something else.

Re: For All You Newbies...

I have to say, overall, great advice. I really appreciate it. I'm definitely a newbie. I've only done 5 pipes so far. I'm having a lot of fun doing it too. I'm kinda limited at this point in my equipment, like I said I'm just starting out. While reading the "rules" I realized I have not do...
